Help me choose my exhaust

I just recently installed my openflash uel header and I'm really enjoying it. But I may have overestimated the difference of sound. I was expecting it to be noticeably louder than stock but it's really not that much at all.

So now I'm browsing around for my next mod...a catback exhaust. There are a handful of different brands that I have been looking at. Those include perrin, greddy evo3, trd, invidia q300, borla, and magnaflow.

My first question is will the exhaust sound much louder with my header compared to a stock header? I think this is what I have read but I'm just curious to what degree. That way I can listen to exhaust videos with stock headers and get an idea of what it would sound like with my header.

I would really like to add a deeper exhaust note with that rumble feeling but I don't want it to be ridiculously loud. I guess I'd rather 'feel' the exhaust than hear it. Maybe the Invidia q300 is too close to stock for me?

I enjoy the sounds of both the trd and the greddy evo3 but will these be too loud for my liking when coupled with my header? The borla is right at the height of loudness for what I'm looking for so that might be out of the picture. And the Perrin might be too expensive for what I'm looking for.

So what are some recommendations for an exhaust (with uel header) that is loud enough to 'feel' but not extremely loud when I'm really driving the car hard, at a price no higher than $1000 installed?

MXP, not the comp.

But installed? Spend that money on a small tool kit/jack/jack stands and get your hands dirty. A cat-back exhaust is LITERALLY about the easiest thing to do on this car.

Then I guess I've got more money for the actual exhaust! I didn't look into how to install it and figured there might have been welding and soldering involved. But if there's not then I could definitely do it myself.

evo 3 will be very loud with catless header. I mean neighbors calling the cops loud and drone is horrendous. Q300 is very quiet, almost too quite with cat less header (it's what I went to after the evo3). I would recommend a perrin resonated exhaust for a good sounding but not over the top exhaust.

This is the kind of response I'm looking for.

Ok, good to know that the q300 is actually very quiet and that the evo3 would be extremely loud with my catless header. I'll have to play some more sound clips of the resonated Perrin.

I played a quick clip of the mxp exhaust at cold start up and then idle but I didn't hear what it sounds like when revving. I do like the tone but I'm concerned it might be a bit too loud with my header. I'll have to do a little more research.

Yeah, can't help with the MXP as I have no experience with it ha ha. Good luck with whatever route you decide though!

I'm about to order a Gruppe-S UEL to go with my MXP, but it likely won't be on for a couple of weeks.

Help me choose my exhaust

That's cool, I won't be ordering my exhaust for another month or so. You should let me know how it sounds once you get it all installed

If you want more noise, I would say keep the stock catback for now and get a perrin CAI and inlet hose. When you do that, you get a nasty intake rumble which I love.
Catback offers no performance gains, which you might have already known.

This is with the stock header, but when you pair a UELA Header while eliminating the intake sound resonators, you're going to love the sound

Oooh I like that^^ I didn't even realize an intake could make a sound like that. This is a totally viable option for me. Hmmmm.....

Check out my thread on the corsa catback. It's deep and rumbly like you're wanting.

You probably don't have a header, the corsa doesn't sound nearly as good, with a header

Yeah, the sound of the catback/header combo is what I'm looking for. Good to know that the corsa doesn't sound great with a header

I got Borla UEL and TRD catback and a motive test pipe. Highly recommend it if you want a good catback
