steering mod

Everyone raves about our steering & I agree but having come from a variable ratio system I appreciate the advantage. Straight ahead is fine but often I cannot turn as sharply as I would like without re-positioning my hands first.

Has anyone explored the idea e.g. swapping to the VW Golf GTI system?

Someone makes quick racks.. Can be made for whatever car.. I like the way my evo steering feels, and I wanted the same for my BH legacy.. I can't remember the company name but they made one to directly fit my legacy..

A power-assisted rack might be tricky, since ours are electric and most others are hydraulic. Since our steering is assisted up on the column, a manual steering rack could work. The VSC could be affected though, and that wouldn't be easy to fix. You would definitely have to reset the VSC after getting a professional alignment, since the electric assist would keep trying to center what it thinks is the center. A caster adjustment can also make the steering tighter in the middle and looser towards the ends. There is a no-lift caster kit available that would be much cheaper, easier, and less risky, than replacing the rack.

Thanks folks. I had a feeling the electric assist might be a problem and had not thought of the VSC complication. I will check the caster idea.

You might find some drift front knuckles that increase the ratio as well as the lock. That said i am fairly sure we have a variable ratio rack already.
