Problem with door handle trim (SOLVED)

I think I may have broken something when I removed the silver piece. Every time I look at it, the trim piece is out of place. I can push it in and it will hold, but closing the door will usually jar it loose again. How can I fix this? I'm tempted to remove the opposite side and compare, but now I'm afraid to touch it because I don't want to break anything. I will try putting the silver piece back in to see if it stays, but I doubt the problem is with the trim piece.

these pieces have metal clips on the back of them. When you removed your silver handle, the metal clip could have stayed on the door card and you tried to install the handle without pulling out the clip first to insert into your new handle.

Not sure if you installed correctly or not but when you do it your suppose to remove the original handle and the original metal clip, then slide the clip into the new handle and install should be very simple and click into place.

Sorry if that sounds confusing

So the clip should come off with the original handle, and then remove it from the handle? Or does the metal clip need to be removed from the opening left in the door? I didn't remove any metal clips and there are none on the silver handles.

the clip slides into the handle on one side and then into the door card on the other side. when you removed your original handle the clip stayed in the door card, you need to remove it so you can slide it into the new handle and then install the handle.
right now your handle is not pushing in because the clip isnt in the handle its against it, forcing the handle to push out

It looks like there is a broken piece. I did notice the metal clip, but it seemed like the trim pieces will just snap back into them.

Ok.. so to my surprise, I put the silver piece back in and it snapped right on. No indication that it is experiencing the same issue as the black piece, it seems to be firmly in place. So now I've got one silver handle and one black handle.. : /

I'll compare them tonight and see if I can find any difference between the two.. maybe I just got a bad part and need it exchanged.

Figured out the problem.. the new trim pieces came with the metal clip already installed, and the original metal clips stayed in the door panel when I removed the silver trim. I have no idea how the passenger side still went on without any noticeable issue even though it had double clips. I pulled both pieces off, used a pair of pliers to remove the metal clips from the door panels, and then put them back on. They snapped right into place with little effort. Problem solved.
