Rattle & Trans Issues
I've had my 2015 Limited for exactly two months today, and I've come across two issues already that are a bit frustrating.
One of the issues is a rattle I am hearing from what sounds like the rear passenger deck lid area. When I got the car, I noticed the rear passenger seat wasn't fully locking into place when closed (the little red knob would stay up). I thought this could be the cause of the rattle, so I took it to the dealership and they fixed the locking issue, but the rattle remained. Last week, I brought the car in again, and they said they put extra padding in the area where the seat locks, but to no avail; still hearing a rattle that they can't seem to locate. What's weird is when there is a passenger in the car, the sound is less pronounced. Nevertheless, I'm at a loss with this one. The technician at the dealer said the sound isn't related to the recall for the bad tack welds, FWIW. The other issue with the trans started a few days ago. I have the 6AT, and when I put it in Sport Mode, the shifting was incredibly rough, like, rough to the point where it shook the entire car and made a sputtering noise. Keep in mind, I wasn't beating on it at all, just normal acceleration. The next day, when I took the car out for a spin, the shifting wasn't as rough for some reason. Baffled by this one, too. Any input would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance, guys.

I too have a A/T, and here is my experience with the "rough" shifting in sport mode. I don't know much about cars mechanically and how things work, but I do know what feels "right" to me.
It's taken me quite a while to figure out how to shift smoothly in this car, as the experience was different day by day. Here's what I've noticed during my 16000 mile experience... Anytime I shift at or around the time the torque converter kicks in, it will almost always result in a "rough" shift. I simply shift well before the torque converter kicks in, or well above. I claim no scientific explanation for this, but that's just how I do it! I also notice that shifting is smoother at higher RPMs. Shifting down low usually bogs the car down, resulting in a shaky experience. Now I'm not saying you need to shift at 5000RPM or anything, but 3000 -3500 RPM seem to be quite smooth. I used to nurse the car and shift right when the little "up" arrow flashed, but then said to hell with MPG's! Shifting from 5th to 6th on sport mode can be a bit rough sometimes as well. Lately I've been letting off the gas a bit to shift from 5th to 6th, a la "wannabe manual clutch shifting" LOL. Again, no scientific or mechanical facts to justify my actions. |

This car has a lot of rattles but I have been able to fix them by spending time trying to figure it out. To be honest, I doubt most dealers can find and fix a rattle since they often come and go and you need to "live" with the car on a daily basis to find the cause.
Check the plastic pillar where the front seat belts attach to. I found the lower plastic cover moves and makes a sound when driving. I caulked in the seam (mid way down) and the movement and rattle were gone. Also, the wires in the trunk..caulk them. The plastic in the wheel wells and the panels under the car all move and make noise...I caulked them too to keep them still! (then sprayed under coating around inside the wheel wells) |

Hi, I have a 2015 6AT as well.
For the noise, mine developed a rear deck lid "pop" around 3500kms as the winter set in. It was never consistent, but got annoying. Sometimes it would do it even on smooth roads, sometimes it wouldn't even make a noise on the bumpy roads. I sprayed some lubricant in the rear deck lid area from inside the trunk. It has not showed up since. My 6AT I leave in Manual mode 90% of the time. Seldom when I use Sport Auto mode, it shifts rough - however not all the time though and not as bad as you described yours. It makes the car slightly lunge forward as it upshifts. |
