Racer X Fabrication catch can development/prototype!!
....Most of you must be thinking not another Catch can/AOS thread!! I have seen at least 4 or 5 catch can threads. Well with that out of the way, I will say that we have thrown our hat in the ring as well. For your viewing pleasure the Racer X Fabrication catch can!! The Racer X catch can is 2 cans built into 1. We opted for a more OEM location/appearance, directly if front of the fuse box and the catch can will be anodized black when it is ready for sale. Currently we have the prototype on our shop car for testing.
Why a catch can?? Well if you don’t already know from the other threads I will sum it up in short. I’m not a sales person and for me its difficult to have multiple paragraphs that regurgitate the same knowledge that enthusiasts already know. The FR-S / BRZ have two locations that would make a catch can helpful, these locations are the PCV and the crank case. These two locations would be the lines going into the catch can. The outlet of the catch can would be to the nipple on the side of the intake directly before the throttle body and the back of the intake manifold. For NA applications both of these sources would be under vacuum, for forced induction applications both of these sources would see pressure.I make these notes because the Racer X Fabrication is a sealed unit and is suitable for both applications assuming it does not get in the way of the charge pipes for the intercooler. The purpose of the catch is to separate air from oil or as you see commonly air oil separator (AOS). The intake and intake manifold are subjected to oil residue from the crank case vent and PCV. The oily residue can hurt performance by degrading the octane rating of fuel, and decreasing the quality of the intake air. The oily residue over time will build up on the intake track as well as the intake manifold walls. Enough with the writing of words. Here are a few pics of the 3D printed catch can and our prototype assembly. I will provide more updates as we move along with the project. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Are you planning to use anything to deaerate the oil?

I want this now. Make it now! But seriously this is the best looking one I've seen on this car. Suits RHD as well so that's a bonus!

We are testing now, and will be releasing in the next few weeks. We are looking to release around December 15th.
Yes, we are testing two different methods for deaerating. I will provide more information on this when we settle on the solution that is best. |

So inspection and evacuation would involve complete removal and disassembly?

Design finalized, raw material is in!!
We have finalized the catch can design, and made a few tweaks but the design has stayed mostly the same. We have added internal baffles, as well as additional features to aid in separating the oil from the air. One additional benefit of the location is its indirect airflow from behind the head light, this has aided in condensing the oil.
We will be making chips for the next few days on these catch cans and then it will be out to the anodizing shop. Questions and comments welcome. Here are a few pics of the current prototype installed, please ignore the hose routing. The hoses can easily be routed for a cleaner appearance. ![]() ![]() ![]()
