Dead battery.

So it has been cold here in Colorado and I think it caused my battery to die. I have another vehicle that I drive if there is snow on the ground, but today was nice so I decided to take the BRZ out. It was only about a week ago that I last drove it. Is this typical? Should I be shopping for an Optima battery to replace the factory one? Plus, my dash no longer says what gear I am in (manual trans). How do I get it to do that again? Thanks in advance!

Your battery shouldn't be dead after a week no matter how cold it is. The car also isn't old enough for it to just need to be replaced. Though I suppose it could be a defective battery. I'd be more inclined to think you accidentally left a light on.
Yet another reason I'm going all-LEDs soon :P

That's the thing. I couldn't find a light that was left on. As long as it is not a known problem I won't worry about it unless it happens again. Anyone have ideas on how to restore the gear indicator?

Stock battery is hit or miss. Several of us have seen it lose charge quickly.

I've got an Optima yellow top now.

The car will shut off any lights accidentally left on after 20 mins.

Really, why do you need an Internet post to help you determine if your battery is bad. Go to an auto parts store and get it tested.

did you arm your car with alarm? but if you have warranty, you should always go back to dealer to claim it.

When the battery is disconnected, the Gear Indicator and Rev light/indicator will go back to default, which is off. Fortunately your radio stations will stay the same. But for your situation its a dead battery rather than a disconnect. There might be a parasitic draw somewhere like a light left on somewhere that will drain your battery. Anything above 50mA (0.050A) is too high of a draw with car off.

It was to see if it was a common problem and whether or not I should replace it with an after market one. Not all batteries are built the same. Some factory batteries are down right cheap.

My 13 BRZ doesn't do that. I left the dome light on far hours once.
