Tada Q&A with video

No FI from Toyota, at least while he's on the project so pretty much never, promise of performance upgrades the next two model years....straight from the horses mouth.

1:13 about the upcoming models...

Eh, he has said no FI before but that does not keep people from insisting it must come or demanding it. Performance upgrades must mean even better handling and maybr a bit more NA power from tuning.

He mentioned two other sport models in development but shied away from the MR2 question. I suspect we have seen the last of the mid-engine, affordable cars from Toyota. I guess I will hang on to mine forever.

You guys and your OEM turbocharged pipe dreams ahaha.

As I have always believed, it is up to us, the owners, to do our own forced induction. Tetsuya Tada said it, "Forced induction will be up to third parties". Toyota already gave us the base car to work with. Just add the damn turbo that you so want!!!

Good plan. I'll be shopping a certain year/color Spyder (would be my third) Jan/Feb.

You have the best of all worlds with your hardtop, one of the best looking cars of the past 25 years.

I'd remove or gut the pre-cats and stock up on replacement service parts before it hits 25 years old and drops off the standard parts system.

Have fun driving your future classic.

Okay. So no FI .... ever. Possible soft-top which I think would look good. A new upcoming "upgraded" 86 which has piqued my interest. Hopefully no more external garnishments, but PERFORMANCE enhancements.

What kind of performance upgrades can they really do that anyone will actually care about? Honestly... Unless they are dropping 200 pounds off the weight, it sounds like the best bang for the buck will continue to be used 2013 models.

He has mentioned the possibility of it getting a different engine altogether at some point... Maybe it will get a 2.5L in a year or two then... Then again, that contradicts what he has said about all upgrades being available to early adopters. They've contradicted themselves quite a few times, honestly...

He said "I have no intention to make a forced induction engine by Toyota"
There's still hope people the engine is made by Subaru...lmao

That would be my guess, expanded use of aluminum like doors and de-contented, lightened interior for a spec/clubsport edition.

It sounds like we'll officially know more soon, maybe early next year.
