Opinions on Universal China Catch Cans
So I have been looking into getting a catch can to assist in the longetivity of my brz engine but I did not want to spend too much money which I would prefer to invest in an exhaust or intake system. My engine is completely stock at the moment as I just recently purchased my brz. After lots of searching I found catch cans for sale for even as low as $25 or less dollars. These are being sold as universal catch cans in a 350ml size stated will fit the twins in some of the listings I have found. So today I made a purchase for one of these cans but before I even dare install on the brz I would like some opinions from fellow members as you folks are very knowledgable and always have good opinions on products. I can tell by the price and locations of some of the wholesale dealers that these are defintely produced in China. I have nothing against china products as I have had both good and bad quality products from that country. I know squat about catch cans though or how they work so I am not sure if this catch can is even somewhat legit. Below are some pics I found to show you what I purchased, these are some pics I found on alixpress although I purchased mine from a USA source.
![]() ![]() If anyone has ever owned one or knows of someone that has one that would be great if you could let me know what you think about these universal catch cans. I have found some listings with people selling the same exact can for even $200 so I am not sure if the quality is there or not. Also the cans do not come with installation instructions nor could i find any photos of how the internals work. I accidently posted this thread also on the maintanance section so if a moderator could remove my thread in the oil fluid maintance section that would be great. |

I have the same opinion as I do on other universal Chinese junk. It looks like a catch can on the outside. It's probably a painted soup can.

I have ready other members opinions on name brand catch cans and they mention that the $100-$300 price tag just does not justify that they are simply billet aluminium cans ment to catch oil so reason i was hoping maybe someone could give me input on these cans. The quality and design appears externally to be there i just am not sure on what is on the inside of the can. If anyone has input by experience with these cans that would be great.

Cheap catch cans don't have any way of condensing the oil vapor, meaning they do nothing. Without some kind of air/oil separator, it's not doing anything.

google "oil catch can internals" and yo'll see what a catch can construction is supposed to look like. If the China one is similar, then it'll be fine. you could alway put some of your own filter material in there as well.
However, FWIW, there's varying opinions as to how effective these things really are...

just save yourself the headache and buy one that has been produced AND tested...preferably by a company who also invests in this platform
or, be like 75% of the rest of this forum and buy the cheapest shit from the lowest bidder for the crappiest copy of something legitimate. (in come all the cheap-skates to defend why they buy cheap shit) |
