Biggest thing is STS and STC combining in 2015.. also Oil coolers have been recommended to the BOD. Someone wrote a letter concerning STi classing???

Per the SAC: while increasing Street category wheel widths by 1/2” would help AP1 S2000’s owners find a less expensive wheel, it would also effectively increase competition costs by making other car owners buy expensive custom wheels.

It would help us a lot, too. There aren't many 5x100 17x7" wheels on the market, but there are TONS in 17x7.5

FINALLY! I've been saying this for 5 years....these classes are the same. The index is within .001 'EVERY single year.

Could probably move all other non EF Civic cars from STC to STF too...

Glad that wheel width proposal was shot down. More width would be nice, especially as our cars are a little narrow, but everyone would need to buy new wheels and couldn't be competitive with the set that came on the car.

IMO, keeping Street as simple and cheap as possible is the best way.

now if only the pax factors would be adjusted we'd be in great shape. But I suppose talk of that won't happen until the 2014 nationals' results come through.

If you just look at the PAX Factors:

STC: .824
STS: .829

and
STX: .827

they are all that close. Hmmm whose to say they shouldn't combine the whole lot of them. LOL

I agree. Why would they combine STC and STS but Not STX which is smack dab in the middle of the lot :p

STC/STS are low hp, lightweight cars. CRX, God's chariot, Miatae. They are pretty close in the type of car

STX are heavier, higher hp cars.

The PAX looks the same since it's averaged out, but there can be a huge difference depending on the course.

I'm not sure a half inch of width is worth readjusting everything to get the car dialed back in.


And there's always the weight vs. speed argument that could lean people one way or another on this.


Also, it would only affect the wallets of people who already have wheels. Those of us who do not have wheels would sure appreciate being able to save money for Wheel X that is mass produced instead of having to buy Custom Wheel Y which takes 3 months to hand make in a CNC mill in East Nowhere.

The way to do that is to mandate OEM wheels. There'd be a run on 7mm spacers and extended lugs then.

I understand.. was just making a point.. ..they split them up way back when to eliminate a car competing in Multiple (and winning) classes. I don't know the answer .. but I can see why STC/STS is being combined.. No Diff allowance, similar horsepower/weight ratio.. and similar times on course.

This proposal only benefits people who already have .5" wider wheels. Everyone else is hosed.

Using current rules, no one needs to buy custom wheels, every car sitting on the showroom comes with a set of reasonably competitive legal wheels. Want a 2nd set? There are several mass produced, inexpensive, easily accessible 17x7 wheels for our cars. Want cheaper? Buy a 2nd set of OEM takeoffs.

By allowing a more competitive wider wheel, EVERYONE will have to buy a new set of non-factory wheels if they want to be competitive. This limits access/increases cost for a competitive car, which is what Street/Stock classes are intended to eliminate.

The proposal helps a few but hurts many more.

This is the opposite problem and would limit accessibility. For older/small production cars, OEM wheels are hard to get access to. Allowing a comparable aftermarket set is OK, because it increases options and access while advantages would be quite small.
