federal ss595

Hey everyone I have a question about federal ss595 tires. I haven't seen if this has been answered on the forum. I am looking for a cheap set of tires just to beat up on and I am interested in the federal ss585, but I hear they run kinda wide. My question is will a set of 215 45 17 or 225 45 17 federal ss595 tires fit on the stock wheels or are they too wide?

Not to wide, great tires for destroying or limited use. Had a pair on my last car and they suck as a performance tire but are cheap and can get the basic job done

Thanks, Yea I'm just looking for something to beat up on and have some fun with. I kept hearing rumors that the tires ran wide but no one ever really said how wide and i didn't want to other them and have them not fit And the website i was going to order them from was no help.

basically, a 235 Federal is like a 245 from most others. I ran 235/45-17 (taller than stock) with no issues (stock height) on 17x9 +28 wheels.

they're a good tire for the price.

I used them in that size, fantastic tire for the price. Go for the 225's.

I have them in 255/40's on 17x9 RPF1's. They run really wide, and while they are fun to slide in and look meaty as hell, I can't help but think after they were broken in they feel less grippy than my old 235/45 nexen n7000's. Maybe I should have gone with a 35 side wall..

There is a misunderstanding i guess. 595rsr are awesome tyres (close from semi slick) and run wide.
Ss595 are different tyres, and are not very good. They actually kinda suck. They do not run that wide neither.

255s should be run with a 35 sidewall on 17" wheels, not sure why would use a 40?

Well, not really. A 40 sidewall is 10mm taller than stock, but a 35 sidewall is 15mm shorter than stock. So neither is really ideal, but a 40 is slightly closer.

245/40 is the sweet spot for nearly the same diameter as stock on a 17" wheel.

SS595 also run wide. Maybe not to the extent of the RSR, but I haven't run those personally. But yes, they are two totally different animals.

I was talking the ss595's. I ran them for a bit with 225/45's on stock sized 17x7's. The tire was fine, pretty darn good actually. Better than stock for grip, and cheap.

I'm running the 595RSR's now with my 18" wheels and they are leagues better than the ss595's. Splurge the little extra for the RSR's IMO but if you want to just wear out some tires, get the ss595's super cheap.

The only experience I've had of SS595s is about 30 track laps that I did in an Inex Legends Racecar.
SS595s are their prescribed tyre. I wasn't impressed with the grip but I did find them easy to predict because they squeal a lot.
If you want to make a lot of noise and smoke in an affordable manner - then OK...

However, I run Federal 595RS-Rs on my S/C 86 and the RS-R is a different animal completely - excellent grip even when cold (so well suited to spirited road use), predictable, and I've had quite good life from them (I'm near the end of my second set).
IMO a far better tyre and I'd recommend RS-Rs over SS595s anyday for road and light track use.

However don't go for the 225/45-17 RS-R because it's the only size with shallower tread depth (5.2mm vs 6.5mm).
For stock rims, I'd recommend 215/45-17 or even 215/40-17 which is the only size that has a 7.5mm tread depth giving it longer life but probably a vaguer feel when new.
595RS-Rs do run wide - a 215 RS-R is similar to a 225 other brand.

@Fish Eagle, how many miles are you getting out of the RS-Rs, and what size are you running?
