Interior Speakers

Looking for some advice. I recently added a JL 10w6v2 in the trunk and it is exactly what I was looking for to fill up the cabin with the low end I was missing. However, it doesn't seem like the stock components can keep up and I'm now looking to upgrade those.

Apparently the sizes of our speakers aren't very common when it comes to the dash and the rear side panel. Door speaker at 6.5 inch seems to be used often and there are a lot of options there.

I'm not extremely picky, but would like something that doesn't get drowned out too badly without being too bright. Would I be better off going with a set of components and place the tweeter in the dash area or would a 2 way be sufficient?

I plan on purchasing a 4 channel amp to power everything in the cabin. Can anyone offer any suggestions on this route or other options?

Come to the wednesday evening meet and I'll show you my setup, which uses a 6.5" component system (woofer in the door, tweeter in the dash), and 4" coaxial in the dash, with those and the subwoofer powered by a 5 channel amp and the stock rear speakers powered by the headunit.

I'm running a 10W3v3-2 Sub, btw.

Im running similar to sirbrass, 6.5 in woofer in the door, 4in component set in the dash. 5 channel amp, 2 channels to dash, 2 channels to the door playing lower/mid frequencies, and fifth channel power a sub.

Rear speakers were left alone and powered by the HU.

Another option is to just throw a 6.5 in component set for the full front stage with the woofer in the door and the tweeter in the dash.

I'm going to mod my current system in a few months with some help. Going to have someone help me mount 6.5" coaxials in the rear for audio fill, and I'm going to get another amp (a 2 channel this time), power the door components off of the 2 channel amp, and the dash coax and rear coax off the 5ch and set them up for fill and balance, to drive the staging forward like it ought.

And also go for a fiberglass instead of MDF subwoofer box.

It's going to sound even more badass

This is pretty much the direction I was planning on going except I'll have a separate 4 channel amp to run the components and the coaxials and a dedicated mono for the sub. Either of you have any trouble getting a 4 inch coax to fit next to the component tweeter? I believe the stock size is 3.5 inch.

Nope. No trouble.

I've got JL TR400 coaxials next to the 1" tweeters from my JBL MS-62Cs in the dash. My installer made some minor changes to the dash speaker panel to fit the 4" in, but had no trouble fitting them in.

Mines not a 4 in coax but a 4" Focal component slim. Fit fine.
Also didnt run a coax in the door but a 6.5 in midbass, just switched it to these guys:

Did you need to make additional modifications to your door panel to get the pioneer to fit? They're listed as having a mounting depth of just over 3 inches.

Even just amping the stock speakers with some real power makes a huge difference. I just amped my door speakers and the difference was night and day.

So much so that I've reconsidered replacing them with aftermarket speakers. Well I'm also lazy so that doesn't help.

I had to use a 1/2 in piece of MDF to mount them, but that was less because it needed a spacer and more because it allowed the speaker to mount properly. Probably would not have fit without the MDF though.

So I have my components and coaxial in and they sound amazing. Only down side is that the coaxials are about half an inch too long and the bottom is touching the air vent. Can't completely close the cover on the dash now. Anyone happen to have a solution for this other than buying a shorter coaxial? The ones I have are about two inches in length.

Trim down the underside mounts.

What front dash coaxials did you use?

If you'd like the aid of an audio install shop to clean up the speaker install, I can definitely recommend a good place to go.

Will do. I forgot what the depth specs are on my JL 4" coaxials in the dash, but they fit with only a little bit of trimming, according to my installer.
