6.5s would fit but why in the heck would you want coaxials in the door? The mids and tweeters are in the dash and likely to provide much better imaging stock than just aftermarket coaxials in the door.

Thanks Dave
Excuse my stupidity but im learning from ya. ![]() So do you think the stock is better than FOCAL Speakers or other after market brands? i will not change the headunite and i will run the speakers without amp. that what i did 10 years ago in my audi a3 .. FOCAL were the best speakers I've ever heard. So what exactly the size of the mids (in the door) I have looked at the BRZ manual and still can not figure out something?

Leave the stock stereo and speakers. Just get an amp. Will be more than enough. All stereo units don't power the speakers much, you need an amp. Changing speakers won't make it any louder or clearer.

Focals, even in the A stuff really want an amp though. I'd venture a guess that the stock hu puts out very little power.

This is no where remotely close to true..... changing speakers to something of quality will indeed increase the clarity, loudness will come down to the difference in efficiency between what was in there and what you're putting in. While an amp will give sufficient power, it does not help the fact that the stock speakers are garbage.

Stock speakers are powered by an amp FYI . The stock speakers are a low quality speaker , the cone is better quality then a lot of stock units tho . Quote:
I just got back from a shop as I'm going to do JL audio ,3 way C5 and in the rear im cutting the stock speaker out and puttin in 6.5". Also doing a custom built box and doing a single 10 and dyno-matting the car . Power by 5 channel 700 watt amp . And topping it off with a kenwood dnx9990 head unit .Won't be the hardest system but it will be one of the cleanest |

Underpowering quality speakers = blown speaker.
Focal is a high end brand... they want an amp. Don't use them with the stock headunit powering them.

So wrong I don't know where to start. Most factory head units, even without an amp, have enough juice to comfortably run most aftermarket speakers. Just don't try to make yourself deaf and a simple speaker change will make a huge difference. So far, my factory speakers suck, can't find anything wrong with the hu or amp though.

Within reason, not entertaining all of main street with the windows down, Focals will be fine on the amp. If you get louder or deeper, lower than 120k or so, bigger amp will be needed. Never, ever trust the freq resp published on a speaker, even focal. 6 inch woofers are not going to comfortably go lower than 100 to 120. Louder you play them the higher the sustainable freq.

I agree on not using the HU, but mostly for SQ reasons and efficiency once you throw a power robbing passive crossover network in the mix. And certainly at a given volume level a good amp will push less distortion to the drivers than a HU will.

![]() Distortion can be introduced in many areas, having plenty of power (or not enough) by itself doesn't mean anything. Too much power can kill a driver too, but too little never will. Distortion will kill a driver regardless of power. Oh and running full signal to a tweeter because you forgot to set the crossover on the source (or amp) will smoke a tweeter too
