Automatic Rev Matching Question
Hey guys,
I recently just finished the break in period for my auto FR-S and I've started playing around with the manual mode. When I down shift, it doesn't really feel like it's rev matching. Scion released a video explaining the dynamic rev management and my downshifts definitely do not look like the one in the video. My rpms jump up but it's nothing like the video, nor does it sound like the video. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I have to downshift at higher rpms? I usually downshift at 2000rpm Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to the whole "shifting" thing. ![]()

Are you downshifting while maintaining speed/increasing speed, or slowing down?
When I downshift while slowing down (like a red light), I see the blip, but nothing big, because the engine is slowing down, the revs don't need to go as high to "match" the gear to the speed. When I downshift while on the freeway maintaining speed/increasing speed I see a bigger jump. You should try both and see. |

Ah just the answer i was looking for. Thanks! I am usually slowing down at a red light like you said
One more quick question. When your downshifting while maintaining/increasing speed, is your foot still on the pedal or is your foot completely off? Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk |

You can do both while downshifting, you either decrease pressure on gas pedal such as if you are going into a corner, or off-ramp because you are wanting to slow down. Or completely remove foot off the gas.
I switched to the TRD Red Sound Tube and you definitely here the Rev Management more. As you continue to drive, you will really get an idea of how the car feels, and what speeds are good to downshift at to get some sweet noise and feel. |

Oh ok I understand now. Thanks so much guys!
I was thinning of modding the sound tube but don't know how to access the part that you swap out. Nothing a little forum search won't do! Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk |

I plugged up my sound tube using the cigarette lighter outlet cover from the glove compartment.
I like the cabin sound of the engine a lot more this way. |

I've noticed that awkward surge too, I've learned to lightly press the brake when downshifting into first and it doesn't allow for the awkward surge forward.
