So does anyone know the stall RPM for the torque converter on the auto?

as mentioned here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23154

Launch control is available for the AUTOMATIC but the launch control RPM must be set below the converter stall threshold.

anyone know?

Not going to be worth even investigating with a stock converter. I think it's below 2500 RPM.

Put it in gear floor the gas and the brake, see where the rpms stop. Lol.

Why would you want launch control with a torque convertor? The stall speed will do the same thing as launch control without any need for electronic stuff.

We have already discussed this, the rpm is ecu limited when the brake is depressed. I've already tested this.

And it isn't your normal torque converter, it can also lock up. EDIT: And don't misunderstand this concept, every converter locks up once it meets its stall speed(rpm), our converter can lock at any speed the ECU tells it to. Which begs the question, does our converter have an internal, non programmable, stall speed that also works in conjunction with the programmable locking (gears 2-6th). OR is the locking(stalling) mechanism programmable fully, to where we can adjust when the converter starts to lock up (stall) and the smoothness of that locking.

So upon releasing the brake, can the ECU tell the converter to lock up (like dropping the clutch) for an aggressive launch, If we programmed it to do so.

It's about thinking outside the box guys and understand what if?

Also I'm looking at insight on how this specific converter is programmed and designed.

the point of having a rev limit set below the stall rpm is to avoid damage from heat




I ask these questions because in "D" (drive mode) the converter acts loosely (slushy between gears) and in "M"(manual mode) there is no slipping regardless of acceleration, deceleration, and changing gears up or down.

This leads me to believe you can adjust the stall rate and the locking mechanism and it's harshness through ECU tweaking, it's just an educated guess, but non the less needs some investigating.

ohh its fine, there are lots of lost threads and plenty of new members, its ok to go over threads but not beat a dead horse at the same time in any sense... its all speculation, if i had a team to figure it out, i would already have done so...

It's new tech, it takes time to learn and adapt to it

well for us AT folks, someone will find an answer. My celica took 5 years of being on the market before parts like the ones available for the FRS/BRZ/86 were around and our car is only 7 months on the market

I really wish a good tuner would look into reprogramming options for the AT software, launch control, shift speeds and points, etc... Also a trans vendor to crack open the AT to look at upgrade options. Like everything I think most of the focus is on the MT cars.

From a couple months back, there was a post from SSP asking to see if anyone would be willing to volunteer their car as a test car.

If all else fails in terms of programming, there is always MegaSquirt. But that's pretty much a complete blank slate that you would have to program yourself, not to mention that the current stock programming is pretty decent.
