Thumbs down How to destroy an engine in 7 days: Attention Deficit Disorder Edition (FA20club.com)

Hi folks. So as many have mentioned my thread (even though it was the condensed version) was far too long to read for people wanting a summary. Here is what was covered in my thread.
  • Purchased supercharger
  • Had problems with original vendor
  • Interviewed FA20club.com's tuner (toni). Found out he was associated with efi-logic.
  • Paid toni to tune my car remotely.
  • Had problems with tune.
  • Decided to fly Toni in to tune car to fix problems in person, hosted dyno day to make it more "fun".
  • Helped tuner make a lot of money via dyno day.
  • Paid tuner over the standard tuning rate to get things done "right".
  • Vendor had issues with shipments.
  • Vendor had issues with quality control, including things such as fuel leaks.
  • Was misguided on installation causing damage to supercharger.
  • Dyno tune had many issues tuner agreed to finish "drivability" remotely. Which never happened
  • Found out vendor registered the name EFI-Logic, and realized he was not associated with EFI Logics the legitimate company.
  • Found out vendor has had previous companies that are similar (look up fabworx)
  • Had continual problems with car starting
  • Had horrible communication issues with vendor
  • I unlocked my ROM (DO NOT ASK ME TO DO THIS, i talked to ecutek and had them patch the software to fix the vulnerability i used) and inspected it my self. Found many issues.
  • Found major issue in tuners AFR sensor calibration showing the car running richer than it was
  • Drove car for 12,000 miles apparently at 13-15AFR WOT & 15-17AFR partial before engine blew up
  • Tried to work things out with vendor and figure out what happened
  • Vendor had constant communication problems throughout the entire time. Was misleading with a number of topics, and simply lied about certain things (such as actually scaling injectors in the tune).
  • Found a flaw in other vortech supercharger tunes and 1 (and possibly only one) innovate car. Informed vendor that he needs to resolve this immediatly
  • Found out that vendor may have simply had a bad copy & paste, or a bad base file that shouldn't have ever been used. Vendor simply failed to test things as he should have.
  • Vendor admitted he screwed up and caused engine failure
  • Vendor did not have insurance to cover incident.

Whether he has insurance or not, is not a defence, or an excuse not to pay.

If he's admitted liability (Has he really?) sue him.

That's what I'd be doing.

Put a hold on his assets, file for a court appointed liquidator to issue 7 days notice. (If I were you, I'd invoice him now, so that if he is wrapped up, you are on the books as a creditor.

I don't know enough about the US legal system to advise further. Except to say, if hes admitted liability, thats a big plus for you.

I have a feeling his only assets are his laptop and EcuTek cables/licenses. I get the feeling that Toni has been taking orders from new customers to pay for parts sold to previous customers. It is a dangerous cycle that many performance shops fall into that eventually leads to robbing Peter to pay Paul.

When I read this all I could think of is the movie 'Hackers'...Thanks for the short read, will check out the full review as well.

I give you props for discovering the backdoor, and even more so, letting EcuTek know about it and fixing it.

the bug was reported by other users first, but whatever. it wasn't an exploit, just a bug that allowed the day-one version of ecutek for end users to open locked roms.

gotta bust nelsons balls every chance i get

Holy shit man. All the knock offs and bad craftsmanship aside, I had no idea club fa20 was so messed up. That bit with Efi-logic(s) is unbelievably underhanded. Efi-logics is a solid shop and that would've thrown me off too. JV was one thing but fa20 takes scumbaggery to a whole nother level...

Hope things work out for you, thanks for the heads up.

My brother had bought a built motor for his mr2 gen2 n it was all fucked. They said because tuned wrong. But he bought the tuned ecu from the same guy. Had his lawyer write a huge letter got all his money back. If u contact ur cc company they might do something bout it.
