Shift resistance going into gate (notchiness)
Hi all,
I know there's a few topics regarding irregular shift feeling but was wondering if anyone experienced harder shifting starting to develop after break- in. Currently, at 4k miles. No grinding but it definitely feels like there's more resistance going through each gate as you row through the gears. I know going up or down into 2nd is always going to be rough however, just recently 3rd and 4th started to feel notchy with an extra push or tug required to get fully into gear. Before going up into 3rd and into 4th and down from 4th to 3rd was perfectly smooth and effortless (since no lateral movement required). With car turned off, rowing through gears feels like it should, only resistance when running and driving. Anyone with similar experience? Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk

No, mine seems to shift quite smoothly, especially after it gets warmed up.
However, if it did shift notchy, the first thing I would do is change the transmission oil. humfrz |

Is your car warmed up? I see you're in Canada so I felt the question would be relevant. Additionally, as you've observed, there are plenty of threads addressing shifting resistance or the like. The remedies include swapping out the fluids, installing a positive shift kit, rear shifter bushing, and/or getting a short shifter.

Yes, fully warmed, engine was at 90+c. Ironically, this started happening yesterday, which was the warmest day of the past 2 weeks.
I'm thinking changing the trans fluid would be a good first step. Would a short-shifter change the feel even if rowing with the stock shifter while off is perfectly smooth? I'm thinking it's more to do with the trans and not the shifter itself. Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk

I think this shifter will always be a little notchy, but are you making sure to lift between shifts? That helps.

After putting my Kartboy Short Shifter, the Kartboy rear shifter stay, and amsoil oil my shifts are fantastic.

he means you don't have your accelerator foot flat to the floor during a gearshift
might also be worth bleeding the clutch fluid as well as considering some fresh gear oil |

Try completely lifting your foot off the gas pedal between shifts. There's a bit of rev-hang with these cars, and it's important that the RPMs drop in between shifts to make the syncros' job easier. In turn, that will enable you shift easier and quicker into each gate.
