Clutch Adjustment Concern - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I just adjusted the clutch pedal so it sits slightly above the brake pedal. If i would adjust it any further the clutch would make a rattling sound when i let my foot off the clutch also when in neutral and rolling if i stepped on the brakes i would also hear a small rattling sound. My present adjustment doesnt make any sounds but i do notice some slight clanking after i shift especially from 1st to 2nd. Not sure if its just in my mind. Today i also noticed there were drip spots on my driveway of hydraulic fluid. Do you think the slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder seals were messed up after the adjustment. Im very concerned and i hope this simple adjustment did not ruin my clutch system. If it is, this car is a lease so how should I deal with the situation.

Maybe you accidentally adjusted it to the point where it was slightly engaged while you were driving.

Are you saying your engagement point is set slightly above your brake pedal? That's where mine is and it's fine, no issues.

IMO, i would undo and adjustments you made and take it to the dealer. don't admit to making any adjustments of your own, i've seen dealers (not necessarily yours) try and put the fault on the owner. maybe tell them you're noticing fluid on the driveway, or that it doesnt shift like it did when you drove it off the lot. just my .02, sorry i couldn't be more useful

Yeah its a couple mm above the brake pedal because anything lower would not feel right so i dont know how some people have it below the brake pedal. Could that small of an adjustment really mess up anything?

What is that point because i only lowered it very little.

Yeah it shouldn't. I've had mine adjusted that way for a while and no issues. Do you have a hard time shifting into 1st or R with the clutch fully depressed?

It feels a little notchy when i first put it into those gears but if i bring it back to neutral and put it back into gear its fine.

Probably in your head. Adjusting the pedal will NOT affect the hydraulic system, you are adjusting the pedal, not the "engagement" point of the clutch itself (The pressure plate will hold it just as strong as before). The noise was probably there before and you are just taking too much notice of it, it's a very noisy clutch, I had like 8-10 speed bumps to get to my appartment and it was click and clacking whenever I tried to modulate the clutch.

If you lower the pedal too much you won't be able to release the clutch completely, and you'll know it you'll grind every gear and won't be able to put it in reverse at all.

Oh i also hear a clicking noise when i let out the clutch in neutral near the catch point.

Could that noise be the gear indicator and cruise control switch? It does not make the noise when the car is off

For some reason after changing the clutch back to close to stock position, it feels a little less notchy and I don't really feel much of that 3rd gear grind. I'm starting to wonder if the clutch adjustment affected all those grinds that people are experiencing.
