silencer on muffler delete pipe

Ok, this is a very weird question, but probably a question from everyone with a race pipe muffler delete.

All race pipe muffler delete are LOUD. it's so loud that it violates my local autox 92db limit. I still want to run it because it saves lots like 20lb easily.

I wanted to add a silencer on it. but seems like silencers are made for exhaust tips with 3.5" to 4" diameter only. The race pipe is only 2.5".

Suggestions?

my buddy club spec 2 pipe comes with a slip on type muffler that slides into a 2.5"

you could look into building something similar

Supertrapp.

The other option depends on how close you are to the limit. Using a turn down tip will reduce the recorded decibels as well. But only so much.

A supertrapp will let you adjust the flow and volume by increments to just sneak under the limit.

Depending how much you're over the limit, it might hurt you worse to run a silencer. They'll choke down the flow a lot.

The tip silencers posted above might work a a tad.

I went through the process of trying to find silencers and stuff. I even installed the APEXI ECV which didn't really work because you restrict flow so much you can't accelerate and you risk melting your valves etc. It didn't even quiet the sound by much.

I was like you at first. So stoked to drop weight! After months of driving it I couldn't stand it anymore and installed two mufflers in the rear to quiet it down. I am so relieved now and enjoy driving my car again.

at stock weight 20 lbs is only worth the eqivalent of about 1.5hp so if you loose more than 1.5hp to save those 20 lbs you may hurt more than you help.

Easier ways to loose 20lbs.

But, there are a few single exit catbacks that save more than 20lbs and claim to stay under 93db.. have a look at the tanabe for example on ft86speedfactory.com..

I've heard the single exit deletes are quite modest under 4k rpm and sound great throughout. Is there something I'm missing here? Dual deletes with other exhaust mods are when it becomes unbearable right?
