Question Decent dealership for TRD Intake install?

Anyone in SoCal get a fair install rate? I was thinking about purchasing the intake and having it installed but Scion of HB told me its $240, Longo said $230, and Torrance hasn't even returned my call yet.

Research shows its roughly 30-60 minutes of work. Those are some outrageous fees if that's the case.

I'm looking to retain my warranty. Thanks.

Bring a pack of beer to someone in your area and they'll install it with you

I can manage the install by myself .. but it wouldn't be covered by warranty. I have the extended 7yr / 100k. I am however tempted to cancel it but this is nearly a daily driver so I'd prefer to have it.

I'm in LA / OC / SD occasionally for work so I could probably make something work if the price was fair. At $240 an install that's like $4-500/hr rate.

I don't think they would void your warranty if you tried installing the intake yourself. You'd have to mess up pretty darn bad. lol

I don't know, I don't feel like finding out the hard way. I didn't think they would gouge so badly on a straightforward install. It's not like you have to remove the bumper.

Anyways, warranties and claims are up for debate which there are lots of threads on. I'm still looking for a fair/authorized install.

Besides, I'd like to build a relationship with a dealer so if the TRD blower ever comes out, that's an option for me. I tried that with Scion of Huntington Beach and that was a waste of time. They told me list price of the intake was $510.

Complete bullshit dude. Even aftermarket air filter/intakes won't void your warranty. You would have to catastrophically eff up. It is a fairly simple thing to do, and you will gain some knowledge on how to do something new. There's a law that protects you and your aftermarket parts from becoming a victim of dealers tryin to void your warranty. They would have to prove that your intake is the cause of the issue. It's fairly simple, just pay attention to the directions

Why does everyone want to turn this into a Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act discussion? I know what it says but I don't want to have to use it. Please debate that elsewhere.

I'm asking if anyone has had a dealer in SoCal install it at a reasonable rate. $240+/hour is not reasonable for a normal dealership mechanic.

Just do it yourself. If anyone asks, a dealer did it, and you lost the paper work. Seriously your warranty should be fine.

Does it have to be a Toyota dealer? Or would any licensed dealership service dept. be ok?

I work at a dealer that'd do it for +/- $50. You'd get a copy of the Repair Order and it would go on the CarFax too, so you could always have it as reference

If a dealership is going to install it they should only charge 1hour labor tops ($95)

I'd do it if you were in my area for half.

Intake isn't covered under a warranty anyway besides manufacturers defect.

If you are truly paranoid about warranty, go to a ASE-certified mechanic and have them do it for less than $250.

You're getting scammed. Just say another dealer did it for free when you went in for a service.

Warranty says it's one hour of labor, I talked Corona down to $110 but decided to do it myself anyway. See if you can talk the mod sales guy down to that too. Also, I was quoted really high initially because they thought you had to remove the bumper like the Perrin intakes. Don't be afraid to question them.
