Cheap 225/40r18 and 245/40r18 All-Season tire?
Anyone know some cheap all-season 18' tire? I was thinking to get ss595 or n3000. However, I live in New Jersey and it snows during winter. I think I need a set of all-season tires even if I drive slowly at snow days.
Do not have to be grip, will be better if they last long and be cheap, cuz I still need some fun at corner. BTW, I will not lose corner-fun if I go 225 front and 245 rear right? Thx!

From what I understand, if you dont get winter tires for winter, you will die.

I rocked the stock summers when it snowed in VA. I did not die.
Edit: This post is worthless to OP since you asked for cheap all seasons and I did not provide that information. AKA google. |

500 nails + hammer = snow tires
In all seriousness though..... Conti DWS Extreme all-season, we run them on both our Viggen & 9-5 Aero and they work like a million bucks!!

i see that you're from jersey. so am i
here is my $.02 whether you asked for it or not. you want Cheap, Grippy, long lasting, and good in winter. honestly you're going to have to pick 2 of the 4. here is the way i see it. an all season tire is a jack of all trades, master of none. its is AVERAGE at best in all the conditions. the best all season IMO is the conti DWS. it isn't THAT expensive. if you must have an all season i would go with that. now from people saying they were fine on summer tires, yes you will get away with it. but it will be sketchy. i ran the stock tires for maybe a week before i got sick and tired of not being able to actually drive the car in cold temps due to having ZERO cornering grip. i'm now running blizaks. my suggestion is to havea set for winter and a set for summer, yes its more expensive UP FRONT but in the long run its cheaper because you will go through tires less. further more you will have the best tires for that specific season. however if you're looking for cheap and long lasting all season jsut get the nexens...i dont recommend it at all but if you must that seems to be what people settle for. but the price for shitty chinese tires vs good alseason is what MAYBE 2-400$ total. IMO tires/brakes/suspension are things you NEVER skimp on. they keep you on the road, safely. |

Crappy all-seasons will not grip in the cold/snow any better than summer tires, so don't bother. If you need all-seasons, get the ones that offer the BEST grip in the WORST conditions you'll be driving in.
General G-Max AS-03 are pretty good, we just got a set for the wife's Mazda3. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTires.jsp I'd just get 225/40-18 all around. 245/40-18 are too tall and will hurt overall performance. 235/40-18 maybe, or 255/35-18 if wheels are wide enough. But in any case, wider = more $$$... |

Another NJ guy checking in. Get yourself four winter tires. A lightweight rear drive car is very hard (non-safe) to drive in snow. If there are hills in your area (there are in mine) all bets are off...you'll be stuck.
All season tires are crap for anything other then vehicles with 4WD or AWD. My truck is great in the snow and my Audi is unstoppable with all-season tires...literately unstoppable. It gets going fine but can't excape the laws of physics for turning and stopping. Last season I put snows on the Audi and it made a significant difference. Much safer.

You shouldn't throw every single all-season tire into the same category and call them ALL crap based on the tires you had on your Audi (what make/model tire was that?). Some *are* crap, but some are pretty good. None are going to be as good in the snow as good dedicated Winter tires, of course.

The A4 came from the factory with Continental ContiProContact 235/45-17. I've also used Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 on the car. The winter tires are Bridgestone Bilzzak LM-25. Even though I have vehicles with great traction for winter, my BRZ will get the same winter tires so I can drive it on days when the roads are in good shape.

the ONLY all season i would ever run in the snow is the Nokian WR-G2. runner up is the Conti DWS.
if it were my money those are THE ONLY 2 tires i would consider if all seasons are a must... |

The salient point being - if you're going to drive your car in winter conditions, buy winter tires for said conditions. I think the overwhelming majority of us agree? (well, those of us who haven't convinced ourselves that our supreme because racecar driving ability can overcome any lack of proper equipment).
