The new OEM oil filter

I know some of you are curious on how the new oil filter looks like. In fact, most of you probably didn't even know Subaru had already come up with a new oil filter.

From the looks of it, this new oil filter is taller and a bit skinnier compared to the old one. I do not know the benefits of one or the other, my guess is that a taller oil filter flows oil better and allows more room to trap loose foreign contaminants. Either way, it stands out on the engine bay and is probably going to be the first thing people notice now when you prop that hood open.. Oh, and it's written in Japanese as well, JDM 4 LYFE!

A quick Google shows that the blue filter is inferior compared to the original black one.

Thanks for the link, I'll probably go back and exchange it for the old one.

Wait, so did they really change the standard oil filter to the blue one or did the dealership give you the wrong filter?

Took my car back to the dealer and they checked some TSBs. The 130 filter is the correct one for the BRZ, but it sounds like they're moving away from the 130 entirely.
