NAV Radio suggestions

Let's face it, we all pretty much agree the default radio is UGLY and most of us want NAV. For me, its the first thing to go.

Since the NAV option for the FRS is going to be the BeSpoke (based on press releases, not conjecture) I'm looking for other options. The BeSpoke to me goes completely against the nature of the car. Don't get me wrong, its one sweet piece of tech, but I'm looking at something that enhances the driving ability, not replace it like I'm driving my sofa.

I don't need Facebook updates, Ebay bidding reminders, the ability to surf porn on my radio (you know there will be an app for that) or any other apps, particularly when it costs $2K for the privilege. If you do great, no disprespect intended!

What I need is a DD radio/Nav that does the following:
  • Full touchscreen that doesn't have to fold into a slot.
  • Built in NAV that doesn't need my phone and is updatable.
  • Ability to play MP3s from an internal drive or a 32G or above memory card in a "smart" fashion. Basically a real MP3 player that does not require an iPod.
  • CD/DVD player (music only, does not have to do video)
  • Bluetooth for hands-free and streaming music from my phone.
  • Costs less than an automatic transmission option.
  • Won't require a speaker upgrade.
I know that seems a little on the "tame/lame" side, but I really don't want it to distract from the driving experience in this car.

Any gearheads out there got good suggestions? I'm not above going "off brand" with a good recommendation.

id suggest this its the pioneer avh-p3300BT add the nav if you need it I personally love pioneer headunits in general. warranty, price, they last forever, tons of options, always on time with updates. I've had the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT for bout 2-3yrs now(added the nav option.) very easy to use. It destroys all the kenwood screens ,flip outs and double dins ive owned out of the water. Sorry if im biased but im a huge pioneer headunit and rockford fosgate fan. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P330...er-reviews-tab

I've always had good luck with Pioneers as well. How well does this unit handle MP3s from a memory card? Is it able to do index it and do standard functions like "By Artist", "By Album", "By Genre"?

Perhaps a cruise through the user manual would answer that:

I looked briefly and didn't see anything about sorting or filtering.

I want about the same, but I don't care about MP3s from a flash device, since I always have my iPhone on me. I'd like some nice iPhone integration too.

Nice unit. Looks like it meets my needs for the most part. Thanks.

Wow, those aren't cheap - $500 for unit, $400 for required GPS addon plus install, and it looks like they will not use the FRS's built in USB/iPod connectivity but need their own cable. Portable units here we come.

Going with the Kenwood DNX-6990HD.
Without steering wheel audio controls, having an actual volume knob is so much easier. Garmin does the NAV. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-qX58iUu...DNX6990HD.html

I agree, volume knob is a must. Go big or go home!

I think I'll get this one. $1000 is major coin for a deck though.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...on/AVIC-X940BT

Can get them for $800 actually.

Someone with a BRZ will replace their head unit. Get their old one and I would expect it'd probably plug right in.

Or you could just get a good Android phone or tablet with GPS and plug it into the aux port. Google Maps is the best Nav I've ever used.
