Lower the seats?
Hi guys,
I am 6' 6'' and took a test drive in the FRS. I was surprised by how well I fit, with the seat all the way back, the pedals were not too close and I had about 1 inch clearance with the roof. This is about as good as it gets, and am really happy with it! The issue that I can see is that when I get the car, I plan on tracking it. To go to the track I will need to wear a helmet and with that I would be too tall and would hit the roof. Do you taller guys have any tips on how to fit in the car with a helmet? I could sit a little less upright while driving on the track but that isn't optimal. Has anyone removed the headliner or replaced it with something not as thick? How much space did you gain by doing that? Would it be easy to remove for track days and then put back? |

Might want to consider going with an aftermarket seat eventually (especially if you plan on dedicating a serious amount of time doing this), if it's non-adjustable you could likely get it sitting a couple inches lower (with less padding of course).
But my money is that the first few times you'll have to drive in the "lean back" position... No opinion on the head liner but removing and re-installing will shorten the life of it, they don't ever fit quite the same after the first time apart and it will likely begin to fall apart if you do it regularly but it might net you an extra half an inch. |

I used to have a helmet with a hose vent on the top, which would scratch up the headliner so I ended up getting a helmet without one. It fits, but it does touch the top when I sit up completely straight.
Also, you may not have noticed this on the test drive, but the drivers seat has an up/down adjustment so you can raise/lower it. |

a "foamectomy" would probably be the cheapest option. you might want to eventually want to look into an aftermarket seat but for a more elegant solution

Thanks for the input. I think that the best option probably is to just get the right helmet and deal with leaning back and later think about getting an aftermarket seat.
Yea, I saw those up/down adjustments. I have the seat all the way down. Some seats have spacers that can be removed to lower the stock seats. Does the FRS (or BRZ) have anything similar? |

Someone is working on a lowering bracket for the stock seats. I couldn't find the thread. Do a search and bump the thread for updates. They should have some news by now.

Just incase you missed it but did you adjust the stock seat to its lowest position? and if you don't want aftermarket fits maybe you could get someone to make you custom brackets?

So glad I found this thread. 6'7, 300 lbs, its impossible to use helmet. It's been breaking my heart to stay home during track days simply because I can't physically fit with a helmet.
Even daily driving, it's comfortable enough but I too am looking at my sun visor and have to duck to see lights when I'm the first car haha. I will definitely buy a set of the DA Motorsports brackets when they offer them and will post a review with some before/after measurements. |

I'm hoping that those brackets end up making the seat low enough to fit with a helmet. Even still, its very impressive how much I do fit in such a tiny looking car.
Also in terms of seeing lights I've heard good things about this product: http://lightinsight.com/ I haven't used it myself though. Right now they are out of stock. |
