Static and Dust Problems
I have a BRZ and I live in Arizona, the dust level is astronomical and unavoidable to say the least, however I struggle to keep dust at bay for even a few hours, it just piles back on immediately after washing and the next day it's just layered on as if it was never washed.
The problem as I've figured out is static. I use a detailer spray (specifically an anti-static spray as it's described), and clean microfiber towels that I put in the washer and air dry, that's it. Yet I use the towels and spray and after just one panel I feel a static cling of the towel and my hand, I know as I use it the towel builds up static, no matter how much spray I use. Anybody know of a cure to stop the static that attracts the dust immediately after I dust my car? Do I wet the towels first? |

I live in an agricultural area in Northern California and have experienced the same problem as you, but not to the degree you have. I have noticed that several waxes, carnuba in particular, seem to be dust magnets by somehow creating static. Do you park outside? What kind of wax/sealant are you using?

I have yet to fully wax my car (bought it on 3/19). I am aware that carnuba waxes tend to "melt" in heat and make things stick to it similar to static. When I will wax it for the first time, I'll use a synthetic sealant.
I'll do that very soon though, like this weekend. I park in a semi-open parking garage, wind comes through and circulates but the dust buildup inside is terrible. |

It's the nice dry air out there - no problems in damp, dank New England. A trade-off I guess. If microfiber is causing static, try using soft 100% cotton, like old-fashioned diapers. Plastic is more likely to enhance and exhibit static than natural fibers. Spraying lightly with water may also help.
Still waiting for someone to develop a 'force field' to repel dust, dirt and bugs!
