Issue: Static!?

Is it just me or ever fucking time I get out of the car im static zapping shit.

I was under the impression it was just me or the shoes I wear, until other people drove my car recently and happened to them also.

It was funny at the start, meeting clients for the first time zapping them when I go to shake their hands... now its starting to do my head in.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing, i used to zap myself in my old car before the 86. till i got new shoes and wore 100% cotton. Also, ground yourself before opening the door, may look stupid, it works. Sometimes i touch the concrete wall, then open the car door.

I used to get zapped at work when opening the office door. LOL!

I used to get it in my ute all the time, but now when i get out, i grab the window frame before i put my foot down and that stopped it, but the 86/brz is frameless, so ill have to come up with a different plan of attack haha

OMG im GLAD someone took the initiative to take the problem to this forum!!
I'm getting zapped daily! I'm starting to think whether its because i drive shoeless all the time? (I'm a fussy guy, and i like the feeling without shoes on)...but i guess as all of you are wearing shoes and is getting zapped that aint the issue? ? haha

we need to find a way to counter this guys!! LOL

maybe it doesnt happen to me because when i get out of the car i push off from the 'sideskirt' section, is that considered grounding myself?

I know my old Astina used to have a small "bump" near the door lock. If you touched it, it was meant to ground you so that you didn't get zapped, or zap others. Can't remember if the RX8 or my current MX5 has them, but for some reason I've not encountered the build-up of static on those cars.

Just so anybody knows, grounding straps are illegal in this stupid goddamn state (Victoria) for some reason. HOWEVER, they work, so if you want, install one and install it low, then touch the door latch on your way out (not the handle-- the latch on the frame)
