Does TRD diffuser work with aftermarket exhausts? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

The website states that the diffuser is only compatible with vehicles equipped with the TRD exhaust. However, I know that certain aftermarket exhausts, as well as muffler deletes, can free up a lot of space. Specifically, I am wondering if this TRD diffuser is compatible with the Berk muffler delete.

Also, what's the installation process on this piece?

I have this on my car. It's connected to the TRD muffler itself. I suppose you can make it work with other exhausts by welding some bungs for it. Expecting it to bolt on however, is a no.

Thanks for the response. How feasible do you think it would be to make it fit with, say, a Berk muffler delete?

This is also what I would like to know. I have the berk single exit muffler delete and this piece would look fantastic to fill the huge gap there is sans muffler.

WAIT! Come to think of it, I bet it would be pretty easy to make some aluminum brackets that attach to the heat shield (held on with 4 decent sized bolts. I bet for $20 it would be possible to make a permanent and strong solution.

Please let me know if you figure out a way to attach the TRD diffuser. Do you think it's skmething a competent fab shop could do for cheap? Also, do you think this diffuser will solve the drag/parachute problem created by removing the stock muffler?

Yes I do think it would solve all of those issues. I will give it a try tomorrow. I honestly think that it would be fairly simple to construct something that not only looks professional but is functional. Honestly, with the FR-S, a front lip and a diffuser should add a slight bit of downforce of not negate the any lift that may be there.

I guess it could be easy. You just need to weld the brackets for the diffuser to your Berk Muffler, then bolt the diffuser on. The welder just needs to know the exact location so the diffuser would sit in the right place.

Which TRD exhaust do you have? the Ver R. or do you have the one that looks like a dome on the exhaust tip?

Think sequoia for a second. They got those long bolts and bushings to attach all sorts of aftermarket plates....leads me to believe that is possible on FRS/BRZ. Will take a closer look when I do another pre delivery.
