Wheels and Tires, what to pick Im so confused
I know this thread is likely to upset some on this board but Im sorry.
I have been going through thread after thread here and the more I look the more confused I get. In the past I have always just went to discount tire had them tell me what would fit on my vehicle and pick one that I liked. I never stopped to consider how dramatically tires/wheels could affect your vehicle's performance (outside of how the vehicle rides). So what I want: Replace stock tires/wheels with new black powder coat wheels and stickier tires. Improve cornering and grip without negatively affecting acceleration. If possible get a larger diameter wheel with lower profile tire (if not I can stick to stock sizes on new wheel). Any recommendations on what size of wheel/tire to get? I seen so many different wheel widths and then talk of tire stretching and offsets and it has honestly just confused the crap out of me and now I have no clue what to get. |

what are you looking to get out of the car? If you don't know do some serious thinking, and reading. If you want the car to feel the same as it does now maybe go with the same size or slightly wider than stock.

Welcome to the hell that is selecting the perfect wheels/tires/suspension for you FR-S.
I've been in the same dilema for weeks now. Its fun, but damn does it make your brain hurt after a while. I've changed my mind no less than 15 times now.... Just keep looking at pics and find stuff u like and then ask questions about them. The members here are fantastic about answering questions promptly. Also, call Zoeb at wheeldude. He has an FRS and cycles thru tons of Rota setups. Hes a great resource.

I would get black RPF1 17x9 with 245/40/17 if I were on a budget and looking for a light and sticky combo

Lol don't be like me... I ordered a set of 18x9.5 +27 et wheels for $3000. To decide I wanted to go a different route before tossing em on... Now I got a set of 18x10s on the way that I spent a pretty penny on as well.
However I'm a wheel whore.

Here a few wheels I like. I have to stay within my budget which is less than $200 a wheel. Is it ok to go up to 18 without affecting acceleration? Or do I need to stay at 17?

If you improve grip you may accelerate faster as long more grip is not followed with big weight gain.. 17 × 8-9 might be the best option for you pal.. 18 usually have better stance and looks but for minimum rotating mass the width should be lower than 8"... except you opt for real light wheels like OZ Ultraleggera..

Don't know I haven't driven it in 2 months, and it'll be another 2 months until I drive it again. Also, I don't know what stock wheel/tires weight but my 18x10 setup with tires mounted weight less then 45lbs filled

Worked for me. Make sure you get the 35 offset, especially if you don't plan on doing coil overs.
