Check engine light with no symptoms?

I've seen the CEL thread and although my car is throwing an occasional CEL I'm NOT getting any shaking, idle or other issues loke the people in the main thread.

Car seems completely normal when the CEL goes on. No weird behaviour at all. No TCS light turning on with the CEL either.

It's happens twoce so far in the last month and a half. It seems to come on when I'm at around a quarter tank of gas and suddenly drive the car hard after cruising around for awhile.

I've reset the CEL twice so far by simply disconnecting amd reconnecting the battery and it doesn't come on again...at least it didn't until recur until tonight, about a month amd a bit after it threw it before.

Again, no shaking, ide pr vinration issues. Car seems completely normal when the CEL fires.

Just wondering if anyone's experienced something similar? Should I be worried?

Since it's so random I think I'll get it checked out at the next service, unless somebody gives me cause to think otherwise.

Also, mu car's a pre-August car, M/T, and it's got an Ecutek tune and an exhaust (stock intake & filter).

To me it sounds like you either have an intake air flow malfunction or your gas cap is not closed tight enough. Next time if it ever comes back bring your car to Autozone to pull an OBD code for free.

Next time the light is on, get the code scanned -somewhere. At my dealership, we don't generally charge people for initial drag on low mileage cars that are obviously still under warranty. I'll generally give you your first "gas cap" code for free, and a note that in the future a minimum diagnostic charge may apply.

The Check engine light can come on for several reasons, from catastrophic engine failure to a loose gas cap. I had a younger guy come in a few weeks back saying he wanted the cam gears replaced because his CEL was on and he read the start of the thread that's in here, swearing up and down that his engine should be rebuilt.

The code was a lean related code thrown because of his intake (I think it was a greddy).

Back on track, at least get the code pulled and let us know what it is.

Most auto parts stores will check the code for you free also, takes a couple minutes. Get the code, google the code.

Had the car over at the tuner's today since the light came on again this morning but, oddly, no codes found. No knocks in the Ecutek logs, no odd temps, nothing weird. Weird!

Tried flashing a new map with a modified idle map. Tightened down my battery connection because it seemed a bit loose. Filled tank & secured gas gap.

So far so good. Let's see.

Just picked up my car from the dealer.

Dealer said the car was throwing an ignition related code. Coil pack on one bank replaced + dealer ECU reflash = problem solved so far.

So, it wasn't the idle control/crank position sensor issue, apparently.

No idea what the code was and not much info on what was in the reflash - dealer tends to keep customers well isolated by the customer serfice folks and far away from the actual mechanics for some reason.
