Windows no longer open/close when door opened

Did a quick search on the faults forum and did not find anything.

When I bought the car, everytime I opened the door, the window used to do a little dance where it went down about an inch and then went back up when I closed the door.

My original thought was "Wonder who the idiot was who designed that knowing the car would be sold in cold climates"

So sure enough, the windows have stopped doing the open/close dance. Not great for a car that has to park outside. It is not possible to close window unless you are inside, so I let passenger out, finish closing that window and then have to leave the DS in the sligthly lowered position.

Is this a programing thing or a sensor thing? While I find window open/close threads that are related to programing, I did not see this one addressed?



Anyone else have this?

Probably should post the answer here too or a link to it so the next time someone comes across this thread by searching they would have found the answer.

Check the little "switch" in the door jam to make sure it isn't loose or broke. I had to loosen it to keep my windows up when they got tinted and tighten it back down when we were done. Just a thought.

I think his point was maybe use normal framed windows??? So maybe, you know, they work when it's cold out??? Obviously this hasn't happend to you. It happened to me at 4:30am when leaving for work when it was cold as a mofo out. The window stuck, then rolled down halfway, then when I tried to roll it up, it rolled all the way down and wouldn't roll up. Pretty fun way to spend the hour drive into work...when it happens to you, you'll change your tune...

This is a safety feature with a quick reset required. Turn engine off. Turn key to "on" posiiton. Push down on window switch twice in quick succession. Should work normally after that.

I happen to live in a place where it gets cold and windows and doors freeze up on a regular basis.

When I fist saw this feature in June, I had to wonder what was going to happen after an ice-storm and the car was covered in a layer of ice. Something would have to give.

For those who are not aware, the windows seem to re-program when it goes below freezing. am going to guess that this is some kind of a failsafe mode to protect the window or the mechanicals?


The problem is that it leaves the window down far enough that you can get water in the car. Since you probalby wont notice that the window has reprogramed itself your first indication after a good rain is going to be a wet interior.

And to those who are emotionally crippled by my method of asking for help first and THEN go searching, please, if you don't want to help, just dont write anything. I did find a solution and others were helpful. Thank you to those that actually had some information.

Found your fix earlier today. Thanks for taking the time to post it. I think that is going to be the answer.

Of course knowing me, I will procrastinate for a while or at least until a nice day comes along. I hate working in the cold and my nice warm shop is full of sleeping prima-donna British tin!

That's unacceptable, it has to be fixed by Toyota. Leaving the window down even a little bit makes the car a more inviting target for a break-in.

More like just the solution! This fixed it for me.. thank you!

Out of curiosity I wonder how that switch works. It only works with the screw tightened versus loose?
