Transmission Clunking (A/T)
I've heard about some M/T clunking sounds while engaging 1st gear etc etc, but I have a different problem in my A/T BRZ. When coming to a stop (In drive, no sport mode or VSC, not manual mode), I hear a clunking/rattling sound that starts of sort of quiet and gets louder. Sometimes it doesn't happen, while other times it happens stop after stop. The sound stops when I shift into neutral. Anyone have any clue what it is? I wanted to get your opinions before I brought it to Subaru (I have a Nameless Axleback and an Injen intake, I don't want them pointing fingers. Also, the issue occured much before both installs, so they shouldn't be related).
Any help is appreciated, thank you! |

If it's a transmission issue they can't possibly blame those modifications. Noise from A/T is always a bad sign. Get it checked out.

That may be a known behavior for this transmission. Do a search and you'll find more details about a clunking noise when coming to a stop. Maybe in next year's model they'll put a little rubber bumper or something to quiet that noise.
If yours noise is different, then get it checked out. |

I've had several RWD cars with LSD that give a good clunk when I stop. Sounds like the "clutch packs" releasing, but that was just a drive train clunk. If you noise is getting louder, visit the dealer.

Pretty sure it's your reverse lockout solenoid activating. I hear this (and can feel it) every time I come to stop. Fairly common and nothing to be alarmed by.

My nearest Subaru dealership reopens tomorrow so I couldn't go the past 2 days. But now that I know there might not be anything wrong, I'm a little hesitant to bring it in just yet due to Miami dealership reputations. I'll get a video up soon to give you guys a better idea of what's happening.
