Speaker Vibration
Any recommendations for a quick and easy way to keep panels from vibrating?
I moved the sub inside so the back panel doesn't shake anymore, but the side panels still vibrate from the speakers. Is there a common spot that could use some dynamat or is there a clip loose? |

I find that locking the doors actually helps quite a bit. I think the locking mechanism hangs loose when unlocked or something.

I find myself driving around with my left hand applying downward pressure on the panel with the window scroll controls which stops the driver side rattling almost entirely.
Aside from that I will probably be opening the door and lining with dynamat next spring, people have reporting dynamat (or similar) has helped the stock set-up sound quite a bit better. |

The biggest source of rattle is the switchplates I think. Pop those out and line them with some foam or something so they can't move around and you should be way better off.

The rattle comes from the back plate of the switch housing, it's actually pretty loose so what i did was to some dynamat and used it to secure the back plate securely to the switch housing. Presto no rattle! But yes, you'll have to remove the door card to do this...it's not too hard, just annoying taking off the silver trim of the door handle.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I just fixed my rattle today using the same method. The culprit seems to be the power mirror adjustment switch, but I went ahead and added some dynamat to the other portion as well, just in case. just finished reinstalling and tested, rattle gone. Sounds so much better now.

Toyota applied some foam tape to both my window switches. Rattle gone. Asinine design with subs in the doors.

Plastic panels have a resonant frequency as well, so there 's definitely some improvement to be had by taking off the door card and applying some CLD to each of the sections and the switchgear.
Another thing to try if you don't have any sheets of a CLD is to find some weatherstripping foam or a window unit A/C. It comes as a 2"x2"x36" chunk of foam and could be easily attached with some adhesive. In the 8th Gen Civic, the package tray used to seriously vibrate with a factory or aftermarket sub, and stuffing the space between the metal layers of the package tray really quieted that location down.

I placed small strips of sound deadening material around the speaker grille on the door panel and around the panel itself. It helped with the vibrations. I also put them on the mounting points between the door panel and the grille.

-joking. But I am correct that there are only 6" spks in the doors, right? I have only dealt with two, and they were BRZ limiteds... |
