Stock dampers on the BRZ are made by Showa. Same for FRS?

When I lowered my car I noticed the stock struts were made by Showa which as many of you know produces the suspension pieces for Spoon Sports etc. I was more than pleasantly surprised when seeing this.

Then I read the BRZ and FRS have different dampers between the two. Are the FRS struts made by Showa as well?

Many of us (RCE, eibach, I think dwx) have tested the two shocks to be essentially identical. Yes both made by showa and pretty good for an OEM strut .

I believe the dampers to be the same, just the spring rates are different.

Showa also makes the oem s2000 dampers Not surprised Toyota/Subaru turned to them for the stock setup

Surprised they used Showa. I would have thought they would go with something lower end
like the KYB or Tokicos.

04-07 STI used to be KYB and they switched to showa for 08+ STI. Those were a big improvement over the KYBs. When Subaru wants a decent quality sporty shock that's what they use now and we're glad. And of course Bilstein japan for special edition stuff.

Agree!

Andrew - Have you guys heard of Koni or Bilstein making a set for our car? I liked my 3 setting adjustable (rebound only) Konis on my S2k before.

I believe Koni is in the process and should have something in the next couple of weeks. Hope Ground Control will have something with a pairing with Konis.

I've heard the initial konis will be inserts...

If I talk to Lee at Koni again soon, Ill try and get as much out of him as I can. Might not be until SEMA though - which by then they will probably have the product announced already.

It's around in other threads, but GC has a setup paired with Koni inserts coming out very soon. It's basically a coilover since they are using their own front strut housings with the Koni inserts and their sleeve kit. Showa is a big OE manufacturer for lots of brands.

There was a Koni thread within the last couple days, they are definitely working on things but the fronts will be inserts.

I'd be surprised (but happy) if koni do anything other than inserts for the front. Bilstein will eventually have something but they take a while. We are going to push them.

Exciting updates! I personally would love something with some rebound adjustability. Not too much ask right?
