Aftermarket Gear Sets?
In the past, companies like Quaife, Kaaz, Jubu Racing, and even TRD made aftermarket gear sets for the sportiest cars in Toyota's lineup. Do these or any other companies plan on producing gear sets for the MT FR-S's/BRZ's?
I don't know about any other MT owners, but the one gripe I have about the car is the fuel consumption. The engine consumes a good amount of fuel given its size. On top of the close ratio and dog engagement gear sets that should hit the market, I would love to see a 6th gear replacement for highway driving (ie. swap the 0.767:1 gear out for a 0.58-0.63:1 gear). |

I don't want to change the ring and pinion because it will hurt the overall performance of the vehicle. Whereas, If I simply swapped out 6th gear, it would only be used as a highway gear, and it wouldn't hurt the performance from 1st to 5th. |

I've been impressed with my mileage...I managed 37mpg on a trip to Houston from NE Louisiana. I also pulled 41mpg over about 100 miles with the cruise set on 55. And I've barely been able to get mine below 30mpg while flogging it pretty good throughout a whole tank. Sounds like I got a sipper while you got a gulper!

The cost of replacing gears will be more than any money u will save in gas with the new ratio. Lets say u get 2-3mpg better it would take u god knows how many years to get your money back.
There are better alternatives for fuel economy like a good tune maybe air filter, light weight pulley, light weight components in general to reduce car's weight. What mpg are you getting? |

there's some basic faulty logic here
gearsets are expensive because they're made for people who race them gearsets tend to be replaced in the 1-4 gears since these are the most used in racing you want to buy a 6th, remove the box, open up the box and just replace THAT gear just so that you can get a slightly taller top gear? LOL? serious? i wouldn't even do it for the final drive for economy purposes i would do it for better acceleration purposes |
