Help!: bird shat on my brand new car

Day 2 of ownership of my new GBS BRZ: I was in the yard and asked the wifey, "Have you seen the huge odd brown and green cones of stuff occasionally on the deck in the yard that looks like a huge cracked kiwi fruit that got airdropped from the air? What the hell is it? Bird poop - animal poop?" 20 minutes later, I discovered the answer. It was some kind of bird poop. All over my brand new BRZ! One of the worst bird strikes that hit my car ever!

It literally exploded into pieces all over the hood, windshield, hood and even to the rear deck. I immediately got a hose and soft cloth to wipe the crap off the car. The crap couldn't have been on the car for more than 30 mins or so. Everything came off, except on the rear part of the hood, i now have 5 or 6 faint brown water spots.

Now the really "crappy" part was that I am getting the Xpel installed on this hood on Wednesday. I really needed it today!

How do it get it out? I tried a microfiber cloth with some window cleaner last night, and made it a little better. At this point I am wondering if I should even spend the $$ on the Xpel given that the hood isn't pristine anymore. The dealer did a nice detail job on the car at delivery. But I am not sure how much polish they put on the car. It's possible that the crap hit the virgin clear coat directly.

Can the Xpel installer get this stuff out? He's supposedly top notch.

Not sure how to help you but I am quite impressed with the past tense use of sh1t. You had many options...crapped, pooped, dookied, stink pickled, butt bombed, etc...but you went with shat. I for one salute you.

Id imagine that the installer will remove blemishes before putting on any overcoat. If he has to do a bit of extra work to get it out it might cost a tiny bit more, but I think a good detailer would be able to get out just about anything.

There are two threads on here regarding poop stain and bird shitting. I was able to remove a huge poop stain off my hood. I posted all the things I used in order. Take a look at them.

Sorry to hear about your problem. First most Xpel installers also detail because the surface needs to be in its best condition before application of the film. But here's something you can do it you want to try and tackle it yourself.

First the safest approach. Meguiars clay bar or mothers clay bar kits. Both can be found at just about any auto store or walmart. These are both fine grade clays and are non abrasive.

2nd if the first approach doesn't work, which means the bird bomb actually etched the clear, you will have to abrade the paint to level the surface. Since it doesn't sound like you have any machines, you best option by hand is Meguiars ultimate compound. Use a microfiber applicator and work the small area, and while ultimate compound might sound like something super aggressive it's not and will finish out great by hand.

Or call the Xpel installer and ask him, it won't be much of a charge to polish out a few small spots.

In all honesty, your best route would be to call the installer as mentioned, let him know and seee what he says but he will probably be able to get rid of it.

TBH, your installer ought to be able to fix it. It seems that when cars are new, the clearcoat isn't fully cured and more susceptible than they are when older. Some clearcoat needs to be flatted off.

If you are inexperienced at compounding, you might leave swirl marks etc, which he'll then need to remove anyway.

Thanks for all the advise. After getting the actual poop off to the best of my ability I'll leave it as is, and leave it up to the pros.

It didn't look that bad at night in the garage, but in certain shades of the sunlight, it is rather evident.

Originally I was only planning on getting xpel on the lower part of the hood (for costs), but I am now rethinking of doing the entire hood, if he can get these stains out. It will be leeberbs in Jersey.

If he can't get them out, I am rethinking whether I even do the xpel, given that the hood isn't pristine anymore. Really bummed about it. This had to be the shit for hell.

I would guess the installer should be able to take care of it, make him aware of it. I have to park my BRZ outside and it's been crapped on a number of times unfortunately, I just try to get it off as soon as possible.

I also invested in a car cover, but only use it on the car whenever I'm done driving it for the day.

Kudos to Phil and the crew at detailers domain- highly recommended! After lots of work they were able to pratically lift the stain off the hood to the point that it isn't visible any more.

The stain did get past the clearcoat down to the paint and it didn't look promising at all. I called Subaru customer care to log a complaint for a goodwill hood respray as a hedge, but it looks like I won't need it.

I got the car opticoated today as well. The GBS color really pops.
