Headers and exhaust installation difficulty - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I have a brz thats currently widebodied and on bags by my local shop, but havent done anything to increase power or sound yet. Although Ive done everything through the shop thus far, I plan on doing everything myself from now on. Soon, I plan on adding both a tomei ti80r exhaust and tomei uel headers. Im wondering how difficult it would be for me and my dad to complete?(both of us have very limited mechanical experience but are looking to start)

I'd find a local shop to install the header. Much nicer when the car is on a rack. Buy an open flash tablet and tune it yourself

Imo, tuning yourself with limited experience is a recipe for disaster

Header is an easy install on this car and exhaust is easy as well. Will take ~1 hour with experience, and if you're going slow will probably take about 2-3 hours. Make sure you have appropriate extensions.

I had to get a set of crows-foot wrenches to tighten some of the bolts to the cylinder head.

Recommend retightening bolts after a few heat cycles, Maybe do that a coupleof times. I found my new gaskets compressed a bit and I was able to add some rotation on the nuts. My header is an ACE-350, and header to overpipe bolts/nuts are known to loosen and sometimes back out, that was my heads-up to retighten.

Top locks will save you the hassle. I know the Ace has their special collector but I don't see why they wouldn't work there.

I ordered a whole mess of nuts for the header install last year including these top locks:

The fasteners are very close to the tubes for that connection though, I think I had to use small-wrench nuts with no flange...

In any case, the new gaskets all compressed a surprising amount after some heat cycles, I was glad I retorqued them.
