Can an Ecutek tune influence what flex fuel gauge reads?
My tuner is off the clock otherwise I would have asked him but I'll ask you guys in the mean time. Can a tune influence what a flex fuel sensor will read? I switched tuners and I got the green light to go E85. I filled up 10.5 gallons of E85 and drove 10 miles but my FF gauge never changed. It only fluctuated between E10 and E11 ever since I went back to pump gas.
Car still drove fine although the fuel trims are a bit lean. This isn't a faulty gauge, is it? It worked for the past 15k miles before I switched tuners but now it isn't updating with the new tune. Last edited by kev0; 04-08-2021 at 10:40 PM. |

Same here, but mine is Visconti's version. My gauge worked just fine reading about 10% before my CSG flex fuel tune using EcuTek to flash it, and is working properly afterwards reading about 80%. The tune should not affect your gauge at all. The tune however can be adjusted to change how the ECU reads and interprets the data and when you data log, you can see that value, but this would not in any way affect what your stand alone gauge will read. Pick up one of those inexpensive ethanol test kits to check the actual amount of ethanol to gasoline to make sure the pump is actually giving you what you're paying for. |

Ok. Might be a coincidence that it just so started to have problems then. I've been going to the same E85 station I have been visiting for the past 11 months. 10.5 gallons of E85 and my E% didn't rise up one bit. Let's see what Zach has to say

Zach tuned mine as well. It's quite possible, however unlikely that your ethanol content sensor in the fuel line has gone bad. Or it's possible that you got a bit of water in the tank and is affecting the sensor output. |

What does the ethanol content read when you data log with EcuTek?

all flex kts ive seen with separate guages the; guage is driven off a separate circuit to the signal circuot to ecu
log what the ecu is seeing a flex fuel percent in ecutek see if it same as guage reads if so then likely issue with flex kit electronics. if both read same then maybe flex sensor is bad |

Surprisingly enough, the ECU is reading exactly what the gauge reads! 11.xx%. It's just problem after problem with my car. Ughh. |

Definitely test the ethanol content of the fuel before going any further. Both the gauge and what the ECU is reading seem to coincide with about 11% ethanol. |

you need to assure the scaling for flex sensor written in ecutek tune is good for your sensor
And the result must then coincide with the gauge reading some tuners (i do for example) can out 10 or 11% as the default fixed ethanol percentage for when the flex kit is not working/faulty the flex fuel programming and its scaling is only as good as the tuner implements it |

i m not in your tuner's head and need a log to look at possibily with a cold start and all the Flex values ticked in in ecutek for logging
would be very stupid to put fix 11% for flex, even if you put e85 so no i do not think so the fixed value i was talking about is forced by ecutek if the flex sensor gets faulty basically |

Knowing how Zach works, you've flashed between 5 and 8 calibrations for this tune already. If he told you you were ready to fill up with flex fuel, the tune is not going to be set to a certain ethanol percentage. Your gauge reads 11%, your log reads 11%. I am willing to bet that there's 11% ethanol content in your tank right now. Test your fuel. EDIT: If the test comes out as a different % there is something wrong with either your sensor, your ethanol content analyzer (the Zeitronix box) or there's water in your fuel. |
