Trunk won’t open (not the valet button)

Hey everyone, I think I might have a new one for you guys.

Over the last few days I can’t seem to get my trunk to open easily. I can hear the trunk latch working when I press the fob or the dash button but the trunk won’t pop open. I have to slightly push down on the trunk lid and release right after pressing the fob to get it to open. It’s almost like there’s too much tension on the latch.

The thing is I haven’t adjusted anything back there. Also the trunk is empty so there’s nothing keeping it from opening. Also, the trunk release leaver is nowhere to be found. All I can find is a piece of broken off wire that used to hold the release leaver in place. I’m thinking this has something to do with it.

Anyways. If you all have experienced something similar let me know, looking to buy a new trunk release If anyone is selling one.

First off, I'd suggest you make sure the cable that was attached to the trunk release lever is not binding the latch.

Also, make sure something is not jammed down in the latching mechanism.

Next, I'd suggest you adjust the trunk release latch.

Have you adjusted the stops? They might be poorly adjusted, putting too much pressure on the hinge mechanism for it to pop loose on its own. Would explain why pushing down on the trunk allows it to open.
