Coil Pack question (P0351/P0352 Codes)
Hello. for the past few months I have had the P0352 code thrown 3 times (car is at somewhere arount 45K miles)
Last night when I was at 100% throttle it popped on the check engine light (usually I just unplug the battery for a few minutes then the next time I power on the car I see if the code comes back fast). The car sounds like its firing all 4, so Im not sure if its some issue where 100% throttle freaks the car out, I do have a Delicious tuning Etune that I flashed 2 months or so ago, might be a bad flash or something (if thats possible on car ecus) This time its P0351. So my question here is. Should I assume I just happen to have 2 bad coils? or is it the computer thats having problems. I have done some work in the engine bay however I have not had to disconnect the harness or anything aside from the front lighting (fog/signals/headlights) In the case where I should probably just replace the coils The simplest solution to me seems to be go to a subaru/toyota dealer buy the revised coils and spend a frustrating afternoon trying to replace coils and plugs. I see a few places sell "performace" coil packs with a "performace" price tag. Is it correct to ignore these products for a DD. As a side note, am I better off financially to just buy used coils on ebay and hope they dont sh out I should also mention I have a code that says it "lost communication with ECM/PCM "A"" U0100 I read that this is usually an OBD dongle. I have a dashcam and OBD2 scanner that I have swapped after a check light came on, I did not power the car off the first few times I swapped them. Thank you, |

There are two reasons your car can throw those codes.
1. You need a new coil pack. It is typical for 2013 models. 2. The coilpack wiring harness is a known to be faulty. This fix is a little labor intensive as the intake manifold needs to be removed to update the harness. Once the harness is updated to the newer style you will also need to update all of your coilpacks to the newer style as the connector is different. Good news it the updated coils don't share the same issue.

Thanks for the info. I knew the coil packs usually died but I did not know the harness also had problems. I reconnected the plugs on the computers and when I went back to the garage after work the codes were gone. I will try replacing the coils the next warmish day and hopefully that is the end of that.
Thank you for the response. |
