How much can a stock frs transmission take?

I don't see too many people talking about the frs transmissions max power, pretty new to it, does anybody know how much max hp and torque it can take reliably?and what you can do to make it more reliable and achieve higher hp and torque?

Stock manual tranny's are known to break on stock power. Anything above 225-250hp and you need a better clutch. When you do your clutch, do the bearing, aftermarket clutch fork and joint. However hp numbers wise, 300ish supercharged, 350ish turbo is the general rule. Going above 400hp you are probably looking at helical synchromesh or straight cut gearset and carbon fiber syncro rebuild. At this point it's going to be cheaper to do a t56 or cd009 swap.

Stock auto rated at 220ft lbs, SSP upgrades to handle 400ft lbs.
Stock manual rated at 184ft lbs, upgrade clutch depending on which you choose can increase rating to about 300ft lbs before your gears “usually 3rd or 4th” will have a much higher likeliness to shear. Also synchros will wear out pretty quickly more power you add. Jacks transmission has some good manual upgrades to handle lots of power.

yeah, trans are rated by torque, not hp.

Will an oil cooler also help keep the tranny reliable? And possibly allow more torque?

Power has absolutely nothing to do with syncro wear. Poor technique causes all wear beyond that from typical use.

mine went out on the dyno at 380 torque. transmission was hard to shift sometimes with less than that.

Its a generally accepted notion that anything about 350 ft lbs will break the transmission. Its an Aisin design I believe AZ6 coded. the upgraded internals of the AY6 are about 400 ft lbs capable. But generally speaking we are talkin about clutch dumps with massive sticky tires. if you keep the tires sane it shouldnt be a huge huge issue.

or just keep the car near stock power levels and drive the piss outta it?

Welcome to our forum, Matthew_ -

Yep, shift smoothly and apply the power through the transmission gradually.

And that don't cost nutten.

It's an awesome car, I don't want crazy power out of it, I just want a little more juice, I drive the piss out of it stock as is with just suspension and beefier tires.
