No fuel getting to the engine - Only P1604 code
Has anyone ever had a P1604 code and the problem having to do with a lack of fuel?
I have finally gotten past my immobilizer issue and the vehicle can crank, but will not start. The only code given is P1604. It sound like a lack of fuel, so I sprayed some carb cleaner down the intake and I can get it to start up and run for 2-3 seconds. Fuel pressure from an OBD2 reader is 445psi with the ignition on on, for the couple of seconds it ran, it was at 775psi or so. P1604 means start-ability malfunction. The MAP sensor appears to be stock, and does say denso on it. The MAF is stock, but the intake tubing is basically non-existent in front of the maf. (I also don't have a stock intake to experiment with) Any ideas? |

Why are you playing with the MAF sensor or intake? You have a fueling issue- either fuel pump or injectors. I don't know what kicks in first- direct injectors or port injectors, but I suspect, with your fuel pressure looking good, there's the issue.
Start by checking the injector fuses and relays. Don't ever spray carb cleaner into a throttle body- it'll mess up the TB. The stuff is too corrosive and will damage the intake tract and around the throttle plate. |

@steve99 will be able to correct or elaborate on this but I believe the car cranks and starts on port injection only and that the fuel pressure monitored by the ECU is only for the direct injection. So assuming my memory is right, I would be checking the port injectors, the port fuel rails and the port injector wiring.

Things to check
Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when key is put in run position? Is your ECU under the hood bolted down correctly it needs a ground to work correctly Have you checked the fuses and relays inside and outside the car. pull everyone don't assume. Now your car can crank but have a engine immobilizer fuel cut off but you will need techstream to confirm if its this issue Engine immobiliser

I'm 99% sure the engine immobilizer isn't active. I just spent the last two months getting past it. I ended up needed a new gauge cluster, main body ecu, engine ecu, and steering column with key.
The car is not out of gas, I just added 10.5 gallons of 91. I'm not playing with the intake. The car basically doesn't have one, just piping with a maf on it. (This car was someones attempt to build a race car and they were unsuccessful. I do have a JRSC kit coming which will give me a new intake.) I have checked the fuses recently, but I checked them before I got past the immobilizer, I will check them again. The ECU under the hood is not bolted down correctly, I'll look at this next. The fuel pump appears to be on. I can feel the canister vibrate when I turn the ignition to on. I also briefly disconnect the fuel line at at the canister to confirm fuel comes out when power is applied, it does. I have ordered the tool, but I have not been able to disconnect the fuel lines with the green connection point to visually inspect for flow at that point. In this image the below, I did try and take off the blue connector fuel line. When I turned the ignition to on NO fuel came out. Should fuel be coming out of either end at that connection point?

After making sure the direction injection ecu was securely attached there was no change.
After the car is switched on, does the primary fuel pump every turn off or does it keep continuously pumping? (It is currently continuously pumping.) In the above picture, is that blue clip line suppose to have fuel in it or not? |

All three bolts are in place.
There is no check valve anywhere before that blue valve, correct? I'm wondering if one of the hard lines are clogged. The disconnection tool shows up tomorrow, so I can see if fuel is making it to the engine. |

I can confirm no fuel is getting to the engine. I have taken off the two supply lines at the motor and even turned the car on with them disconnected, no fuel came out.
I blew into the fuel lines and i could hear it gurgling in the tank, or at least somewhere. It didn't feel like they were clogged. I also disconnected the two lines at the where the supply connection is from the pump. Fuel came out of those lines when I turned the car on. I'm running out of things to check. Any bright ideas? |

Small bit of progress. The fuel pump ECU had four of it's wires cut and then soddered together before the pump ecu.
I cut them and connected it all back to the way it should be. Now the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds then shuts off when the car is turned to on. It turns back on when the car is trying to start. Before the pump would continuously run. However now NO fuel is coming out of the pump when it tried to prime itself. Ideas? |
