Turn signals issue, need help

Hi,

Right side turn signal not lighting up. Swapped left/right bulbs to see if it's burnt out, but both work fine. Also noticed rear light is 'dimmed' and not as bright as the left.

Bulbs are LED form Diode Dynamics, rear lights are TOMS.

Don't know if it's an electrical issue, relay issue or what.

Any help or guidance on what to check or do is appreciated, thanks!

........that's fer messen wich the perfectly good lights that came with your car.

However, now that you have messed with them, you may try:

* checking the appropriate fuse (see your manual)

* check to see if the light has a good ground

* check the relay (if that circuit has one)

Come back.......

Had this setup for years now, never had any issues, and don't know much about electricity to know exactly what to do. Right turn signal light doesn't light up anymore, took out that bulb, swapped it to the left and it works so I know it's not the bulb. Then I noticed that the rear tail light signal is a lot dimmer that the right one, so I'm guessing there must be something electrical going on.

Looking through the manual, can't seem to figure out which fuses to check. I'll keep reading.

Not sure how to go about ground, I know what it is, but how do I check if it's good?

Anything else I should be checking?

Sorry for being a n00b about this, just trying to figure how to fix it, thanks

LEDs don't burn out in the typical way one would think. They dim with age. That might explain the dim one but I'm not betting on it. Turn signals are used intermittently.

I recommend using stock bulbs for troubleshooting.

Do you get what the kids are calling "hyper-flash?" ...the fast flash?

Understand about the stock bulbs, but don't have those anymore.

Nope, no 'hyper flash' or anything.

The LED ones are still good, I check by swapping the left/right with each other and they both light up on the left side. Right side both don't turn on.

As for the dimming, figure the rear light was starting to go, but then I turned everything on again to check, and the side marker light on the right is also very dim now too...something is definitely up.

Still can't figure out which fuse to check, most I got was tail light fuse from inside car. It's 10A and looked good. Will swap with another 10A and see if anything changes, but don't think it's the right fuse to be checking...

Thanks again, and if anyone knows of a solution let me know.

I suggest you check the fuses in positions #s 4 & 6 in the fuse panel under the dash.

My money is on that you have a poor ground somewhere in that circuit. I suggest you take a wire and run from the negative side of the housing for the bulb and run it to a known ground ...... to see if the bulb brightens up.

humfrz

PS - Bubba says to pound on the tail light housing and yank on wires .......

Which fuse is the 4th and 6th position? (Image is from another thread)

Does the car come with extra fuses, or should I just swap one from another location and put it in? Gotta get me a fuse checker later today.

PS: Tell bubba thanks but not gonna bang up the housing lol

The positions I referenced are marked in a picture in your manual (10 A tail and 7.5 Amp stop in your picture).

A fuse puller along with spare fuses are located in the big fuse box under the hood.

Thanks, realized I've been looking at the wiring manual for the car and not the regular manual, no wonder I've been lost. Regular manual is so much easier to read.

Fuses seem fine, went to auto parts store to get voltage meter and start checking ground wires, but part I bought was broken and had to return it (display wouldn't work) and was the last one in stock, just my luck.

I'm no expert, but if it's a fuse, wouldn't all the lights just not turn on at all? Thanks for all the help again.

looks like same fuse fees power to both left and right sides, so unlikely its fuse.

Swap the entire tail light assembly and see if fault goes with tail lights.

else its possible its the body intergrated unit module (BIU), some of these aftermarket led light draw more current than stock and it can damage the BIU as per posts below

see here for repair few post down

Yep, that manual is a helpful thing to read .....

Oh, yes, a volt meter is a handy to have around the garage and house fer sure.

Yes, most of the time, most fuses are a "go OR no go" thing. They just don't kinda work.

OK, enter @steve99 with his BIU knowledge. All that is above my pay grade ..... so, I'll bow out .....

I do hope you get it sorted out .....

(mumble-mumble-mumble - what the hell was wrong with a battery, a wire, a switch, a bulb and a lead to ground ..... ??)
