Air Filter for MY17 Manual

Hopefully this saves someone else from my troubles...it seems not even the dealers are aware of the air intake changes and new filter. I've tried to get a TRD drop in filter and they ordered me the only one they say toyota lists. However it does not fit and is for the auto or older model year. I can provide the part number if anyone wants to know...but even K&N doesn't list any part for the manual transmission on the 17.

If anyone else has found the right part please do share. Thanks!

Huh.
Well the TRD drop in filter is longer, cause it comes in a longer air box kit, with that sound tube delete. My guess that's what your dealer ordered.

Not sure about the k&b one but ask your autopart store to open up the box for 2013-16 and see if it fits

Two different auto parts stores also had only the old non woven fabric filter instead of the new paper element.

I'll post a picture of the filter that is in the car... the old style won't fit.

I get what you mean about the trd cold air intake though and having a longer filter... but that wasn't whet they ordered either.

I have a MY17 Manual as well.

Due to the change in the air intake the drop-in filter is thinner and all the aftermarket ones available atm do not fit.

I emailed ft86speedfactory a little while ago looking for a drop-in filter but they dont know when they will be made.

Or you can just change the whole intake itself, but I, like you am searching for just the drop-in filter.. guess we have to wait lol

There are two TRD ones. The one for the TRD intake and the drop in one the stock intake. Neither will fit a 17 because the whole box size was changed. The only ones that will work are specific made for the 17s.

So here's what I got...part number - PTR43-00085, this should be the drop in TRD not the one for the CAI.

here's some pics of the TRD and then the new paper element style...I think they haven't made one for it yet. What get's me...they say the part number for the stock replacement is also the same part number...which definitely won't fit...lol...not sure who has had one changed yet but I guess I'll find out after first oil change...or 10k when they do it.

Here's the diagram from another post http://imgur.com/a/PmiSE

check out pages 81 & 82

This also makes me wonder if the intake tube is a worthwhile upgrade since the size and bend has been updated.

Like Tcoat stated, <MY16 vs >MY17 are 2 different sizes.

The My 17 paper air filter is better flowing than the old 2012-2016 thick cotton air filter.

I suspect their is little advantage in changing the my17 stock filter (unlike the older model filters) its already constructed similar to most aftermarket ones anyway and flows better
