Pilot Super Sport Tread Life

Today I went and had my winter tires taken off and my summers put back on. To my surprise they told me my Pilot Super Sports were about done after only one season of them on. I went back to my paper work and did the math, I did 9,116 miles on them last year. For a tire that has a 30k warranty that seems a bit crazy.

What is everyone else getting out of their Pilot Super Sports on this car?

Part of it is what kind of miles were they? Commuting tracking spirited driving. What kind of surface were you driving on all these things add up. That said though 10kish miles yea that seems a bit low without you having issues either with the tires themselves or your alignment setup. Id ask them for the tread depth measurement.

Alignment, tire pressure, driving style, temps.

Also compare the current tread depth to the factory tread depth. Your tire shop may not be as familiar with tires like the PSS where the tread isn't super deep to begin with.

Never been tracked and I would say I drive slightly spirited. The roads in western PA are pretty windy and very low surface quality due to the winters. I think they told me the tread was at 3/32.

Mine wore out quickly too from just commuting. Is Michelin going to compensate you in anyway? They denied me because my tires had uneven wear.

Yeah they are going to credit me $432 towards a new set. Too bad spring has come basically a month too soon or id be able to grab a set of the new Pilot Sport 4S's.

Did you have uneven wear or did the measure it at all?

They didn't say anything about uniformity of the wear only that they are at 3/32.

I wish I had the numbers on my alignments, I don't though b/c the dealership did dumb.
Anyways, I had a set (2) of PSS go out in about 8k miles on the rear b/c the dealership somehow put toe on the rear wheels, when I talked to the manager about it they looked for paperwork and couldn't figureout who did the work last time, but did have it written they (dealership) did it.

Anywhos long story short we negotiated a prorated rate on tires, they redid the alignment, I got new tires and have run nearly 10k miles on them and treads still really good.

Mine were on the car when I got it at 4k so not sure when they were installed, now at 11k almost 2 years later and they are about that same 3/32" left.

I have a buddy at work with PSS on his Evo with over 20K miles on them. My wife's BRZ has about 6K miles on the PSS and I don't see significant wear. My STi just got PSS last month, so too early to tell.

On your commute are you braking all the time or do you lift the accelerator to slow down. I know in my commute, I can barely touch the brakes all the way to work. Braking will wear tires faster than rolling miles. Especially, if you are one of these people that accelerates to red lights and brakes hard.

I work from home but my area is a lot of starts and stops. I'd say those 9k miles were roughly 60% city 40% highway. I am going to ask them to check the alignment when I get the new set put on.

I can't imagine how you must drive on the street. With some playing on backroads and cloverleafs and commuting (and a decent alignment and keeping the tires at the proper psi)....my 255/35/18 Star Specs are just now getting down to the wear bars with ~23k miles on them.

But no AutoX/HPDE.
