Continental ExtremeContact DW vs Michelin Pilot Super Sport tread width 235/45/17
I'm currently on XXR 527 17x8.25 wheels with Michelin PSS 235/45/17 tires. I'm down to 5/32 on all four tires now and will most likely be replacing them within the next four months. But with rain season coming up here in socal, I'm getting my search on early.
The grip of the PSS is nice, but it's too much for me. The Extremecontact DW was my secondary choice, as I'd like something midway between stock and the PSS, but closer to PSS. Looking on tirerack, it doens't list the tread width of the 235/45/17 DW tires, but when I compare the 225/45/17 DW and PSS widths, the PSS is .8" wider than the DW. But looking at tirerack's explanation of tread widths, the measurements are hard to get. I like the look of the 235/45/17 PSS now, and imagining the same size DW on there being narrowing, it's gonna look stretched right? Has anyone had both tires in the same size before? |

Honestly go with a 245/40/17 as it very close to stock tire specs and it wont throw off your speedometer or affect gearing. As for it looking narrow i doubt it, a 235/45 is plenty wide for a 8.25 width if anything it might have a slight stretch probably wouldn't even notice it

I've read 245/40/17 is also a good size for this unique 8.25" width wheel but I'm aiming for less grip. Thought about going with the Conti DW it'd achieve that, but if I get a wider width than I have now it'd balance out :/
Maybe a 245/40/17 in Hankook V12 Evo2 would allow for less grip in this size? |
