Can you identify this bolt?
Hey all. Just bought a used 2014 BRZ and found this bolt in the glove box. Anyone know what its purpose is/was?

That's an oil pan drain plug. Kind of necessary, so I'd check the oil pan super freaking ASAP. That said, if they switched to a fumoto valve, then the drain plug is no longer necessary.

Weird it would be in the glove box. I know some people have had trouble with the thread on these bolt stripping especially the first oil change done. Check thread on that bolt see if they're still good.

Err oem oil pan bolt, the previous owner probably has one of those magnetic bolts in place of the oem one.

So seeing as how the threads look super buggered up, I'd bring that to the dealers attention and ask them to confirm the drain plug in the car is fine. (Have them remove it to verify, and reinstall.) If it's threaded, have them do a new pan. Don't bother with chasing the threads imo.
If it's a magnetic plug or fumoto valve or something, I'd be slightly less concerned, but it could be just your potato pic that makes the threads look so bad.

Wow loads of paranoia for a bolt in a glove box.
Look at dipstick. Is there enough oil? Look under car. Is there any oil on the ground? If yes and then no don't sweat things until your next oil change. If no and then yes you have a problem and the paranoid guys were right.
