Buying 2013 FRS that was in an accident
Guy was second owner, got the car with 2000 miles and got into a snow accident at 3000 miles. Did $9000 worth of repairs, front bumper was the main culprit, and the car now has 30,000 miles on it. I'm thinking it's fine. Anything I should be aware of?
Edit: title was clean and all work was done with official aftermarket parts at the Toyota dealer. Need to get more information, regarding what was replaced Last edited by Mattstermh; 06-15-2016 at 05:10 PM. |

$9,000 does not equate to "front bumper was main culprit" that's major subframe, suspension, and ancillary components replaced imo.
But given that it retained a clean title that means that someone stamped OK on the chassis being solid, engine may be a question mark for awhile, there was a guy awhile back who had a crashed car and the engine blew, people assumed that the engine took a harder smack in the accident than the owner was willing to accept and created a problem that took awhile to surface. Don't remember how that turned out... Get a full inspection, be willing to deal with unforeseen issues down the road, wiring, engine, alignment, etc. could all come back and bite you. Get it if you don't mind a potential project requiring some serious investment to the point that you may as well have bought a clean accident free car. It's a gamble imo. Could work out to be the best decision you ever made, or the worst. |

Better be cheap. These cars aren't worth a whole lot without accident damage.. $9k worth of damage, if it's fixed right, I'd still want at least $4,500 off a normal cars price. $9k isn't a bumper respray. I know as I resprayed mine by a very high end shop (best paint on the car when I sold it, new owner agrees) but it didn't involve replacing anything but that was ~$1k. Even replacing the bumper would be at most $2k. With headlights and all other lights ~$3k since you can find them in the yard easily enough. Even stretch it to $4k. It had more than bumper damage.. and the metal work was far more costly if done right.

Be careful with that assumption. If I wanted to, I could make my track car's Certificate of Destruction title become a clean title car again. Just takes some time and effort.. and money. Granted that car was a theft recovery not a wreck but the process is the same.

Well, I reckon if it has run OK for 27,000 miles after the accident, it should be OK .... at the right price for it's general condition.

If there was zero frame damage and the work was done by a good shop and you know exactly where the damage was, and you don't care, I say go for it.

Since we have established title status, and who did the repairs the most important question we need answered now is:
How much is the car? |

It's $16k w a remote starter. I could go for $19k w/ 20k miles no accidents instead.
