My first accident.

I dont really know where this goes but here i go.
The other day i was driving around and i hit my left rim while turning the wheel to the right. I was going about 25-30. I just got back from the dealer and they said me left control arm is bent and i would need a new one. They want to charge me ~$300 for the arm and ~$408 and ~$100 for an alignment. Its sitting in my drive way now. The only thing im worried about now is that theres more damage and my power steering is being strage. Ill post pics tonight. Any ideas? thoughts?
My deductible is $1000

Sounds like a bent A arm....they should be able to fix it for around $500. I wouldn't get too worried about it. If the steering is out of whack it's because the alignment is supper messed up. Take it one step at a time, shit like that happens.

I know i just feel that charging me $410 is a little pricy for labor. I mean i would rather buy the control arm for $270 and do it my self then get an alignment.

I bet you will also need a new tie rod, knuckle, and bearing. You pay insurance, why not take advantage of it.

Going to have to disagree...i think this will only raise his insurance and cost him more in the long run.
Not so sure though. Good luck bro.

I had $5600 in damage from severe drivers side suspension damage and side airbags going off. My insurance went up $20 per month.

Ok well i should probably mention that I'm 17 so it will most likely go up a lot more then $20 more a month.
And I'm having my auto body teacher take a look at it tomorrow on the lift and were going to make a list of the damage. I'll post pics and keep everyone updated.
And do they sell any aftermarket control arms? Might as well upgrade.. haha

Man these scions are getting banged up faster than anyone can keep up with.

So how did it happen? Im gunna have to guess you were doing something stupid like 95% of these incidents (no offense)

The control arms are pretty beefy, no real need to upgrade. Besides, you would want these to bend instead of the frame.

If you take my deductible of $1000, insurance paid out $4600.

I pay an extra $25/month for insurance

If you dont consider the time value of money, it will take Geico at least 15 years to recoup that money. And if you consider the time value of money, its about 20 years. I am not sure that a claim is even chargeable after a certain amount of time.

Albeit, I know everyones situation is different and this may not be the best route to go for everyone, but instead of only fixing what I think might be broken, or might be damaged etc, everything is repaired and I dont have to worry about it. In fact, I sent the car back twice to have other repairs made because initial repairs werent enough.

Either way, the choice is yours. If you feel you have severe damage insurance is not a bad option.
