Need a new tuner
So before I go on my rant about John Visconti, I will ask my question. The rant is relevant to my decision to switch to a new tuner, but I am sure that everyone here already understands why I would want to do that...
TLDR: I have heard great things about Delicious Tuning (just sent them a message actually). I want a shop with good customer service who is also very good at their job (tuning). The only reason I've stayed with Visconti this long is because of his relationship with Don from Accelerated Performance (where I get tuned), I believe that their relationship makes the tuning process go a lot quicker. I don't have a problem spending a bit more on an initial retune, but I did just rebuild an engine so I'd rather not completely break the bank. Visconti's retunes are $200, and the only thing I can't stand is his customer service. The tunes have never really been an issue. So if anyone has shop suggestions, feel free to throw them out there! I am very open to new ideas. So. Why do I want to drop John Visconti's service? The first straw: I first installed my turbo kit fall 2015. Don cut me a deal on most of his old parts and then referred me to Visconti for tuning. No big deal, I had never met the guy so who am I to judge solely based on other peoples' experiences? At first, I was surprised at John's service. He texted me a couple of times after I used his live support letting me know he was unavailable for a little bit and he'd get my basemap tune asap. And he did get it within the next couple of hours. It was just for the wrong MAP sensor. So of course I told him this and he got it resolved a couple of days later. The second straw: I upgraded my fuel system (injectors and in-tank pump) over the winter, and I also put a new clutch in. I told John about all of these in detail, I wanted to make sure there was no confusion or missing information when he worked on my car next. I emailed him the list of new upgrades and then finished my email with a request for the racerom features to be installed on my next tune. No response. So I emailed him again. This time he responded with "you cannot have launch control on an automatic car". I figured maybe he forgot exactly who I was or something and let him know that the car was indeed a manual. He then said that was okay and he'd install the racerom features when I decided to get retuned. Finally the time for the retune came along. He was responsive until I paid him, then he just kinda went dark. I asked him a couple times before paying for the retune if/when he would send me a basemap so I could limp the car to Accelerated's dyno. He neither confirmed nor denied the basemap. Like I said, after paying him, he was unresponsive. Day after day went by, each day I'd email him towards the end of the work day politely asking about the basemap. This went on until Thursday, and my appointment was on Friday. Friday morning he emails me and tells me he won't be sending a basemap. I am now left scrambling to find a trailer to get the car over to accelerated. The third straw: I may have been frustrated about the whole miscommunication on the basemap thing, but it was all alleviated when I got the car done. I was pleased with how it ran and how well it pulled. Plus, I was excited to try out launch control and no lift shift! But there was no launch control. There was no no-lift shift. Racerom did not exist on my car. I emailed Visconti of course, long story short he kept asking "what do you mean?" or "yes it is installed". One day I walked outside, started my car, and took a video of my trying to activate launch control, all the while just revving my car all the way out. There was no reply from him to that video. The final straw: My car blew up. This was unrelated to tuning, as you can read in the linked thread. I told John about it, never got a response. Now just a few days ago, I let him know that after careful consideration I decided to stay with him for tuning because of his relationship with Don. I told him the engine was almost done, and I gave him another updated mod list including the new build specs. I included that I definitely wanted racerom this time, and that if there were any issues like we had last time I would be moving to a different service (and now here I am). He has not yet replied. John Visconti does not care about his customers. He does not care about personal requests, rapport, communication, or anything that would make a customer fond of a company. He blatantly lied to me on multiple occasions and tried covering it up by ignoring me. I have been nothing but professional with this man and he has returned the favor by blowing me off time and time again. Fuck that. Last edited by nickw14; 05-03-2016 at 05:42 PM. |

Needs a tldr
I didn't real rant about Visconti Tuning. Kinda skimmed it. BUT I can vouch for Delicious Tuning. I too had similar issues with a local tuner in Australia. Won't go into because I don't feel like bashing any companies. I heard excellent things about Delicious Tuning. And I've seen they are very responsive and active on these forums. All ticks so far. I emailed Zach to discuss plans etc etc of what I wanted, what would be the best things to do for tuning and all sorts of questions. 45 emails later, I purchased their tune. FORTY FIVE EMAILS LATER. I hadn't even paid for it yet and he wasn't even pushing me to. Just answering all the weird and wonderful questions I had to ask. After purchasing the tune, everything was still perfect. I asked how much it would be to dial in the tune and make it perfect (was an OTS tune I bought) and Zach said How about we see how much room there is for improvement. And with that, started logging and revising straight away. Wouldn't take anything for it. Long story made longer, when it came to the Flex Fuel side, I've ended up going over the limit of my injectors which wasn't something we expected to happen (yay for over performing) and he has said when I purchase them, he will revise the tune AGAIN to suit because it's not something we fore saw. I've been astounded by their customer service. Also, the tune. THE TUNE. OMG the tune. Car runs like a dream, have had absolutely no issues what so ever. Logs look perfecto. Flex fuel system works incredibly. Transitions excellent from unleaded to E85 and every percentage in between. No tip in knock. No weird shiz going on anywhere. tldr; Delicious have the best customer service I have ever come across and one hell of a tuning company |

I've been with delicious tuning for years and never regretted it for a second.. Zach is awesome, and always a PLEASURE TO TALK TO. I never get attitude just solid tunes...I probably have over 20 tunes from them because I am always changing something to squeak out a few ponies.

I can vouch for VitViper, not super active on here, but he's one of the biggest names in the Honda tuning scene and has his shop FR-S putting out around 500whp. Guy is more knowledgeable about tuning than anyone I've ever met.

I also think very highly of Delicious Tuning. Zach is great to work with, explained options clearly and helped me get the correct maps for Racerom since I cannot use map switching. I usually don't mention vendors but feel that he went out of his way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted and needed.

I've actually talked to Zach twice now, both times about switching off Visconti. And now this time I am actually ready to do it. |

It's kinda like MRT here in Australia. They are (or were until Harrop) the only Master Tuners for EcuTek in Australia but are known as the absolute worst by EVERYONE! Which has given EcuTek a bad vibe in Australia. Harrop are now Master Tuners though so hopefully it might change things around.
It's from all the positive words about Delicious Tuning, and from TJ Hunt's reviews of them on YouTube that I knew they were the guys for the job. hashtag never regret |
