Updating ROM Question

New to the ECU mod world, so apologize for anything obvious.

ECU currently has A00C calibration.
Want to update to B01C, in which is compatible with A00C, and I got the binary from: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62332
I have Tactrix with latest ECUFlash, and latest ECUFlash defination for both A00C and B01C from Td-d's github repo.

What I did:
1. Read existing ROM, worked.
2. Flash B01C downloaded from above link, flash succeed.
3. Turn off the car, turn on, wait 20s, turn off, then turn on and fire up the car.
4. Car fires up, but dash isn't working (tachometer not reading anything)
5. Turn off the car, try to read current ROM, ECUFlash error out, after "getting seed".
6. Flash back the saved ROM downloaded in step 1.
7. Repeat step 3.
8. Car fires up and dash works.
9. Still can't read current ROM, and remote/keyless entry stopped working.
10. Disconnected/reconnected battery.
11. Now remote/keyless entry works, and also able to read ROM.

So, my questions are:
1. Can I just flash the B01C binary with definition I got from Td-d's github (or the built in one with ECUFlash install) onto a A00C ECU, or do I have to modify the B01C binary with some ID of my ECU before flashing?
2. What's the connection between read/write ECU and remote/keyless entry stop working?
3. Why can't I read after a flash, unless I disconnect/reconnect battery?

A00C and B01C are different CAL IDs for different model years.

From my understanding you should not be attempting to flash a tune with a different CAL ID and B01C is not an "upgrade" to A00C it is just an identifier for Trans type and Model year.

It sounds like everything is back to normal? If it is back to normal find the updated A00C tune and flash that to your ECU.

In the hope of getting someone more knowledgeable @steve99 @Wayno

Per http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62332, they're compatible.

"ZA1JA700C ,900C, A00C ,A01C , B00C all compatible with ZA1JB01C"

Everything is back to normal, but I'd like to understand a bit more since I'm converting the car to a track car and will be working (I guess learning first) a lot on the tuning of the engine.

Oops, I don't use tactrix so I've never looked at that thread

Not really sure how it is related but steve will probably have some more info on that. He is in australia so probably won't hear back until later

Thats rearly strange.
Roms before B01C are compatable with B01C theirs even a service bulliten on it. Its unlikey their is a problem with the B01C rom as 260 people have downloaded it and this is first problem.

Their is currently a bug in the tactrix latest update that stops the logging to sd card working, hopefully their is not another bug that causing this.

You dont need to mod any binaries or defs when flashing stock roms.

I think contact the Tactrix guys

does the tacometer\dash come good after the battery\ecu reset like the remote locking.

can you read any error codes from ecu

after flashing you sometimes get error codes from some modules in car as during flash process communication to ecu is shut down, and other modules sometimes thow a code. Done hundreds of flashes and never had dash not work or remote lock not work though.

but worth a try

So I tried again yesterday, flash the same B01C rom, and it worked this time. I did exactly the same thing, so not sure what went wrong last week. Door remote works after flashing as well.

However, I still can't read ROM after flashing, even after turn off/on ignition. Had to disconnect battery to be able to read ROM. Any idea why?
