Upgraded Tires Happened Sooner Than Expected
So I've been driving the car for a couple weeks now and it's been awesome. Buuuuuut man these tires skate over the surface like nobody's business. I was thinking of waiting until I wore these down a bit before getting a wheel/tire upgrade, but Costco had this deal on Michelin PSS annnnddd...
I just had them put on today. Thank the heavens. So much better. Still running stock wheels but we fit 225 on them. Ride is much improved but still has that oily coating they come with from factory. But I'm stoked to ride with these guys! I had PSS on my last car, so it was a pretty easy decision to go back. Anyways, I noticed they have a 30k mile warranty. I've never applied for the warranty and never really needed to since they treated me so well. But has anyone here gone through the warranty process? What was it like? |

as long as you got 4 of the same size tires, you have a 30k warranty.
Basically, if they wear out before that, you can get pro-rated replacements |

When you buy tires at Costco, do you have to get them mounted? I just noticed that $70 off deal and would just like to buy them, store them and mount them when summer rolls around.

^^ I wanted to know the same. I don't mind them installing it but I wonder if they will install on the new wheels that I want to order or does it have to go on the stock wheel/car?

Costco charges $15 per wheel to have them mounted. That $15 includes mounting, balancing, and disposal of the old tire. But seeing as the tires were still so new, I'm just holding onto them just in case. And actually I think disposal usually runs $1 a tire, so I ended up paying $14 per tire for install. The Costco deal was a little sweeter than just $70 off in that they also gave an extra $30 discount towards install for executive members.
You don't have to have them installed there - if you just take delivery you only pay for the tire, not the install. It was just easier for me to have them installed there, but word of wise - they damaged my wheel. There's small scrubbing/nicks where they mounted the tires. I'm probably going to follow up with them because I took pictures before just in case, but at the same time I don't expect them to actually do anything about it, and I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. |

So quick Q on the size...
I'm waiting for my stock ones to wear out, but the 225's fit without an issue on the stock wheels? I was considering getting some spacers too - but assuming I don't - there is no issue with the wider rubber as normal?

I have the high spec (I think it's the equivalent of the BRZ Ltd in the US) which comes with the 17" rims - and don't really want to spend cash on wheels at this stage + the stock wheels really aren't bad.

compound is more important then width of a tire for traction and a wider tire on a narrow rim with feel sloppy due to the side wall bulging out and the car will be less responsive. However I ran 225s on OEM and it wasn't bad. Also don't forget wider is heavier

I do think having the slightly wider tyres should be a little more fun... Guess the best would be to try and set and see how it feels - nothing beats personal experience

these 225s are wide enough to notice they're bigger than stock, but I'm not getting any rub and my ride has improved considerably. there's grip for days compared to the stock tire, so as much as I'd love fat rubber all around, I'm pretty content with this. |

I'm not looking for laps records - just that little bit more. I also don't think the downsides to tyres bigger than 225 are worth it for what I want (weight, rubbing, cost, etc) Thanks... 225s for me next time around

Yea, the primacys were a horrible choice for the 86. Remember when all the car journalists talked about how much "fun" it was because the tires were so narrow? Fuck all of them.
